#23824, "Does taking off the BYPASS valve and just putting on a silicon boot decrease HP?"

I want to buy EclipseMenace's AEM CAI w/ bypass valve cuz i promised that i would get it before, but i didnt and plus cuz its real cheap, but I didnt get it b/c i found out that you dont get the full HP you could with the bypass valve, so I was wondering, if i took off that bypass valve and put on the silicon boot, would it be the same as not having a bypass at all, or would that decrease air flow and HP? Is it just better to buy one with out a bypass valve?

it sould be just fine with the silicon boot over it in place of the bypass valve.

someone was feeding you bad info. the bypass valve does NOT add HP. PERIOD. putting a rubber boot in it's place would be better then having the bypass valve in there, in the case of HP gains.

im not sure but i think he meant that you can not get the full hp if it DOES have the bypass valve

LOL oh hell...i know the bypass valve doesnt add HP, i know it takes it away, and thats why i dont want it. Ok lets say you get a full 8 HP from the CAI then you add the bypass valve you only get 6. Now if you add the silicon boot will you get 8 again?

The bypass valve does not add HP in fact the bypass valve probably causes the intake to lose pressure and induce warm air. If you take out the bypass valve and use a silicone sleeve to connect them just make sure that the cut ends of the intake are touching each other and your clamps are really tight. If the two pieces are connected properly it will be exactly the same as a regular AEM CAI.

Hey dood, just remember, by not using that bypass valve and getting that extra .5 hp you can't even feel, you may suck up some water, and do significant engine damage. So depending on how wet it is where you live, do it at your own risk.
And that bypass only lets air in when something like water is clogging your filter, so it can't make it's way into the intake.
Maybe try it both ways, if you don't notice a hp difference, just use it.
