#23752, "what's wrong?"

OK. Tonight getting on the highway, my car just wouldn't pull right. WAs rattling instead of a smooth exhaust tone. BRAAAAAAAAPPPPP then cel on, then off, then on, off, etc, then on for a while, then finally, I pulled over and it went off. I accelerated slow up to the 70 mph limit with flashers on like I was driving a yugo. What could be wrong? What does a car do when the motor is blown?

Check the engine codes.

When I had a broken rocker I noticed a loss in power but the car drove around fine.

Start with the engine codes and we'll go from there.

I know it's not the plugs. They are pretty new. I did burn or lose 1 quart (approx) oil. Which sucks. It happened at about 1am, so I couldn't really look at it. Kory said maybe fuel filter. Gonna see what it is. Only thing is, they can't read codes if the cel isn't on at all times can they? It comes on, then goes off. The car just has no acceleration at all, and I mean a moped would beat me at a light with ease. IT CRAWLS! I almost blew the motor to get to 45 to do the minimum speed. It was sitting on 7k, and went past. Then, I let off, hit neutral, no throttle, just neutral to drive in case a valve was hanging in my valve body. CEL went off, opportunity, I got on it, and it went to 70, then braaaaaap-vrroom, br-br-bump. Did it again, luckily at my exit. I pulled over in a lit parking lot. Called my dad, he's a mechanic, he drove it home, and I took the montero sport. He said he had no idea what it was, but it wasn't good. If my motor is gone, I am considering a 4G63 since we could do it at our shop. I hope it's some simple BS tho.

If your dad is a mech, then have him scan it. Try the key dance anyway. It might be retaining the code.

he knows some absics. He only does auto transmissions in domestics. We live in a small town and it just isn't worth it for us to spend money on scanning diagnostic machines b/c nobody ever wants that done that comes in. I am pretty sure, based on what a few people have said, it's either my plug wires, air filter, and/or fuel filter. My friend said same thing happened to him and he can't remember but it was something to do with fuel.

how much oil are you loosing? if something's clunking you might've spun a bearing, or thrown a rod, but i'm not sure if it would really drive at all if you did.

it sounds like it's hitting fuel cut and revving up at the same time. I think it may be ignition related or the TPS. I cahnged the fuel filter and it didn't really help much. It just lets it backfire now every single time I rev. Gonna get a guy to test it out monday on a machine. Read the codes and see what I need b4 I spend any more money on shit that won't fix it. I tried switching my stock wires back on, but no difference, but they probably suck. I need new ones. Where can I get nice blue plug wires? For a decent price?
