Just wanted to try and get some info... I have a 95 Eclipse GS and am just about tired of the auto. tranny/want to swap out for a manual. What I wanted to know, other than buying the tranny itself, is what about everything else... i.e. the clutch pedal/resovoir, computer programming (if any), and anything else I am not thinking of or taking into consideration. Any info would be greatly appreciated... like where to get one used and where I might make some money off of my auto tranny.

Search in the archives. There's a bunch of info. A few here have done it. I pretty sure the shop that did it was in Texas.

Thats just dumb.. throw the money in your auto tranny and eat up sticks unless you don't plan on going turbo then do it.

I'd rather have a stick conversion over an auto anyday, even with mods done to the auto tranny, I still would rather have a stick.. its just not sporty if your not shifting it if you ask me...

Mods? If God wanted us to mod cars, he would make aftermarket companies. Oh wait... yeah i better get to work on that.

I still prefer 5 gears over 4 long ones.

I don't have a 20G that takes all day to spool and needs longer gears to reach boost.

I don't see how you can consider driving an auto "sporty driving." Sports driving requires a stick and a clutch, plain and simple. If my 87 year old grandmother can still drive her little Honda with a 5-speed, I think anybody who considers themselves a sports car enthusiast can. Autos are just too simple, put it in drive and press the pedal. It's just so.... boring. That's my 2 cents, I'm sure there are some guys with autos that would spank my car, but just the same I'd still rather have mine.

mash the gas and go, yippie... what fun... I'd rather take more time to spool and be slower than have an auto... I just dont find them sporty at all... I know they rock in some applications like muscle cars and shit but I'd rather have the control to shift myself when i want to shift... Like my 240sx, wow, that would suck if it was auto, BAD, rwd cars are so fun to drift around corners and backroads, there's nothing like the feeling of taking a corner hard and fast, dropping gears and doing some mad drift action.

BTW, why are you opting to go with the 20g over the 16g? I wouldnt really see an advantage unless you had a DFI or stand alone system so you could push full boost out of it.

problem with building the auto- autos shift electronically. You modify an electric tranny, you probably have to trick it or do a shift kit. We have seen cars that have us put shift kits in that are elect, controlled do bad things. a few of them hit 2nd and immediately hit 3rd, skipping 2nd, other shift hard as hell, with not enough gain to be worth burning your clutches out and busting a sprag. We have had to replace a few valve bodies just b/c the customers hated the shift kit they brought in in the 1st place, but we agreed to install them. We don't do shift kits anymore. It's too risky. As far as building it, a stall converter helps launches, but from what I understand, you don't want to drive around the streets with that. I would say the 5 speed swap would be good. I plan to do the same.

Ok this is starting to remind me of the lame old 4g63/420a swap..

Bottem line- If you have a 2gnt and have an auto tranny and also Plan on making 300 or more HP keep your auto just being able to keep boost all the time without letting it out do to shifting should get you close if not as good as a 5 speed. Id recommend Level 10s PTS kit with there blue cluth option these clutches can absorb 300% more heat than our stock clutches. Level 10 can also make TQ converters now to your spec so you can still have 1 and be happy with it daily driving yet still eat up sticks.

Brad, If I had all your mods on my car with my preped auto same weight same everything I would win in a race.

True- A stick is more sporty and fun and I can drive them like the best of them but autos are just so much less of a hassle and you don't ever have to worry about missing gears, etc.
