#23295, "How do we properly check our AT fluid?!?!?!?"

I've been getting mix responses. I know the car has to be in proper operating temp. and you run through the gears.

According to the manual, you run through the gears and end it at 'N'. Then check it. I'm not sure if that was for the Mitsu tranny or the Chrysler tranny.

Some people say end it at 'N' some say end it at 'P'. Also, is it normal for the fluid level to fluctuate (between hot and warm). Like when it is hot outside, the level goes higher. But at night time, it tends to be lower. Almost to the level marked 'warm'. When I was coming home from work tonight, that thing was close to the level 'warm'. I even made a couple of boosted runs. Thanks!!!!!

Well at work when I check the tranny fluid I always check it in "N". And yes the level will depend on the temperature of the tranny fluid.

It doesn't matter whether you end in "N" or "P". The shop manual says "N" for the mitsu tranny and "N" or "P" for the chrys tranny. I've tried both and it didn't make a real difference.

I dunno man, when I tried to end it up with P and then N, one reading was higher than the other. I can't remember though which method was making it higher. Thanks for the replies anyway.
