#23262, "EGR Valve block off??"

What is the deal with the egr valve block off? Is there another way to do it without buying the kit from chrystler? Also, what does it do when you block it off?

i just removed the old egr pipe and took a piece of paper and trace out the flange where it joins the tb, and put the paper on a piece of aluminum ( a clean soda can would work) cut the alumnum to fit, and bolted it back in its place. I have no problms with leaks and seems to work fine.

Ok, another couple of questions. Where is the egr valve located, and what does it do in the first place? Also, is this a mod or just something to help the engine run a little better? Im just asking these questions because i really dont know that much about the 420a. tia

Does anybody have any pics of this. I searched in the archives and found one pic, but since I don't know what I'm looking for it didn't help me much.

Do you have a CEL, because I would really like to avoid this?

i posted a pic of my upper intake mani plenum w/the blockoff plate on it.... prolly on the 5th or 6th page in the general section...

umm, i got a CEL from it, code 401..autozone chex your codes for free emoji

the CEL shut off recently, so im chillin...

and ya, dun spend anymore than like 5bux on materials to make the kit... i used sheetmetal at first, but then i was worried that the heat from the exhaust mani would deteriorate the metal, so after speakin w/dino, he hookd me up phat for 5 bux w/thick ass metal plates....

good luck.

I made mine with some think aluminum I cut, I wouldnt use a coke can, use something thinker, and use gasket maker. Use aluminum and you can polsih it it nice. You will get a CEL for the EGR not being hooked up but it wont effect performance. I am not sure if it will effect emmisions testing but I dont think it will cause the EGR system only works sometimes, its not always on or anything.

>will doing this make you fail emission??

It all depends on what state you live in. Some states are more stringent than others. I live in Colorado and yes if you lived here you would fail if it was blocked off. But it is simple to do and you can just hook up the egr system, go get tested, come home and put the block-off plates back on. Howell auto has a block-off kit for only 35.00 it come w/ thick ass plates and new gaskets. If you are lazy like me I would just say buy the kit. To get no cell just take off the egr tube, the one that is metal that runs from the side of the head to the intake manifold. There is a plate that goes on the side of the head and a plate that goes on the intake manifold. Keep the wire harness and the vac line connected to the egr solenoid. On the egr solenoid there will be two open vac ports just cut a 4-5” piece of vac line and connect the two openings. Walla no cel.
