Here's an interesting point someone brought up with me the other night. A good set of aftermarket cams SHOULD have the proper overlap already built into them from the manufacturer. So, it should not be necessary to have adjustable cam gears to go along with them and risk having them come loose (with the major valve damage that would occur with such a failure).

So, if I'm going to get aftermarket cams anyway (who, ME?!?!? )
should I bother with adjustable cam gears at all?

On the stock cams the benefits are obvious with adjustable cam gears, but is there any benefit to running adjustable cam gears on aftermarket cams???

I think so. Every car is tuned differently. Different amounts of performance parts. Different set ups. The cam gears can help you fine tune the cams in your car. You're car could be stringer in a different band than the cams are set for, gears could help this.

Also for those of us that have to deal with emission testing. The cams gears can help reduce overlap increase vacuum and help pass emissions.

While I may install my cams without gears because of money concerns, they will not stay that way.

If you don't get cam gears with a set of new cams, I'm going to hunt you down and beat you with cooked spaghetti!!!! If you run into a problem with overlap or degreeing, what are you going to do without adjustable gears? Nothing. You'll have a shitting running car. Please get a set of cam gears.

I just took delivery of my cams last night. Waiting on the cam gears to be delivered. Hopefully early next week. In fact, my mechanic said he WOULDN'T install the cams without cam gears. He doesn't care how exact they are. If they aren't stock, you shouldn't be using the stock cam gears.

Please....anyone considering getting a set of aftermarket cams or have already purchased them, save yourself a lot of headache and get a set of adjustable cam gears. You already know they make a difference with stock cams. Why mess around with this type of investment?

Heh heh, easy there Sam! I've already got the adjustable cam gears. I'm just curious to everyone's view on this. I think it is a good point to bring up.
