#2281, "Do we really have Neon engines?"

I know there's a section in the FAQs in the home page but are Neons also 420a? Has anyone ever seen the engine bay of a DOHC Neon or driven one? How come on paper they have 10 more horses than us? Just wondering...

Yes neon engines are called 420As too. They are simular but do have some obvious differences. The short block contains indenticle pistons, crank, rods, rings. The head contains Identicle valves, springs hardware ect. The obvious difference is the head on the neon is turned the other way, different intake and exhaust manifolds, PCM. The not so obvious differrences include different cams and slightly higher flowing heads on the neon. The long blocks look every simular (minus the manifolds ect) sitting next to each other and most sensors are simular or the same. Speculation is that the neon gains its 10hp via 1)chrysler imagination 2)PCM octane tuning and 93oct power rating 3) more aggressive cams and head. Probably a little of all three cause our cars dyno at about 114-115hp stock and most stock DOHC neons dont break 120hp at the wheels.
