yea i know i dont know how to spell. but anyways, somethings up with my cooling system. this is what happens.
i drive on the freeway for like 5 miles and the coolant guage says its getting hot. if i turn on the heater it will still stay there. but once i turn off the road and go to a stop it goes up to the H. once i take off in first the guage goes down way closer to cool, then if i jes cruse in third or fourth whatever i starts rising. i have noticed that when im on the gas a lil or when i am in 1st and 2nd the temp goes down. im thinkin that maybe my thermostat is only letting the coolant flow when it gets really hot? any help would be appreciated. thnx and sorry im not very good at explaining things.

well first, fill check coolant level, not the little side bottle but the actual level under the metal cap, make sure its full and there's no air in it. that would make you problem occur. if that doesn't do it change the thermostat and refill coolant. that WILL work. if not u have major probs, liek head gasket or something, but check that first and i'm sure you'll be fine.

you might have a clog in your coolant system.. or a problem with the waterpump.. could be those.. but it's less likely then the problems dsmark mentioned.

I'd bet its your thermostat. Sounds like its not opening fully, or not at all. If your overflow tank is full, and the radiator is not, then thats my best guess. When the car is shut off, the pressure in the system is supposed to pull in more coolant from the overflow as it cools, as the thermostat starts to cool and close off. Possibly your waterpump too, but that will usually make some noise, or leak around there when it starts to go bad..also be sure your cooling fan is turning on too, i know when my temp gauge is about half way, or just barely over half way, one fan kicks on. Check that too.
