#22471, "Found Oil Leak......"

Okay I looked under the car and saw that it was pretty oilly every where is that normal? Anyway I noticed that the majority of it seems to be seeping from the cracks of the tranny box so I went ahead and wiped everything clean so then a couple days later it dripped a tiny bit... I am pretty sure its coming from the tranny area now so what would you recommend I do about this cause it seems to be coming between the lines of the tranny box is there some adhesive I could use on the lines to stop the leaking? can you tell tranny fluid from regular motor oil? should I change the tranny fluid.
I really need help with this guys cause I need a fix for this before I throw on the turbo

thanks all

Well, if your tranny is leaking, you need to pull it, scrape off the old gasket maker and use some new anerobic gasket maker to seal it back up... check 1st to make sure thats your prob cause pulling the tranny is not hard, just a pain in the ass...

Tranny fluid should be changed every 30-40k miles.

Tranny fluid stinks. Oil does not. That's the diff in smell. Check below your ECU/Battery area and look all around the tranny for leaks there, and make sure your breather plug is able to be pushed in and pops out ok. For oil leaks....THICK BLACK shit and doesnt stink like tranny fluid does.... Replace/change your valve cover gasket and spark plug gromments down inside there....Tell u what, pull a plug wire and see if you got any oil in your plugs while ur at it.

If you got a tranny leak down below, do like Brad said. (Super20G) Or, see if your oil pan is leaking too, i bet it is. All or most of us have leaks and stuff down below...it's the price you pay for being lowered or in a low car to start with.

Just like that other guy replied above, when I discovered oil leaking out of, what looked like my tranny, it actually ended up being the head gasket. Luckily the car was under warranty.

>Tranny fluid stinks.

Actually our trannies are one of a seldom few that use a synthetic trani fluid, and i have never seen it smelling bad.

How much fluid are you leaking? A few drops..
Does it leak out when your just parked, or only when you drive?

well it only leak a few drops when I am parked only and since I wiped all of it off it somtimes doesnt leak....

btw (kaptain)I dont think it is the tranny then if what you said is true... it doesnt stink there are no links by the tranny between the ecu and batt... plus the it was oil cause it was thick black shit like you said(hehehe) I think its just coming down from somewhere else... so it could be the oil sensor cause that was my second area that was dripping plus when I was changing the valve gasket and spark gaskets when I was putting the cam sensor back on I broke one of the bolts in the threads so it is holding on by one bolt now... could that be a area where oil is coming out... oh yea I also recently changed my head gasket with the new mls gasket so that shouldnt be the problem.

tia
