#22465, "do we need to retard ignition timing with 10.5 compression"

just wondering if we were to run straight 10.5 pistons and no turbo, would we need to retard timing?
thanks
James

No, timing will be fine. I wouldn't worry about retard until yout hit 12.5:1.

depends on how high you want to boost. i believe you can get away with up to around 8lbs before worrying about timing issues.

Yeah, then it's just a matter of how much boost you want, if you are building internals to handle boost, then get the retard so you can push the boost.

hey james, well i know u got the higher compression and all, but this is what hrc said. 881 compression retard 1/2 degree per psi with built bottom end, with STOCK compressionnn but with rebuilt bottom end retard 1 degree per psi of boost... this is any stage 3 and above... so since you got 10.5 compression and if u can figure out a formula or use one, from this crappy data of mine you might be able to figure it out... i would assume if you were retarding by boost pressure from one and half to 2 degrees per psi would work, but you also can retard by rpm with ur ignition... i would call bill at hrc and most of all gary from howell to get some #s...
