I just bought a monster autometer phantom tach and it should be here soon. My friend with a neon told me that now I have to buy something else to hook it up. What is he talking about why can't we hook it up with what it comes with? Or is he out of his mind? Who has done this install before how do you do it. Thanks for any help, Patrick

our cars run a dual coil system. the thing he is talking about if i am right, is called a tach adapter. i had to have this to run my msd dis 2 ignition system. it synchronizes the sparks so that way it works properly. i'm thinking that is what you need b/c if you just try to wire it up, it will only read half of what it's supposed to. that's all i know. later

I installed mine in about 20min.'s. It's very simple. You can wire the power to your fuse box (acc fuse), or hook it to the battery. The black wire you would ground to the chassie somewhere close, like a pre-existing screw in your dash or somewhere that connects to metal. The green whire connects to either the guage pod (you would have to remove this and look at the back of it, it should have a screw's in the back that say tach., and there is also one for a ground.) or to one of the three wires that go into the top of the engine, if you have the fixit book on your car it will tell you what wire is what, or you can just try all three till you get the right reading on the tach. Then hook your white wire to your dimmer switch, it pop's right out. I believe you have to snip both looped wires on the back of the tach for a 4cyl engine (do this first). I needed no adaptor...

Same here. I have the autometer phantom tach and I needed no adapter. I hooked it up cut both wires and was on my way. It bounces around at idle sometimes but it works great and I think everyones does this(I tell people it bounces around to the music in my car, hehe). Your gonna love it when you get it set up. Hope that helps.

The tach came in today and I looked in my chiltons manual for my 96 GS. The schematic said that the tach was the white wire, is that going to be on the lower plug of my ecu also. Also I tried to hook up my A/F guage to the W/B wire on my upper ecu plug, but it does not work. All I get is one green light at the end of the guage. Thanks for any help, Patrick
