Is this necessary? I notice that my car makes a weird sound whenever I first drive it in the morning without letting it warm up. Also for some reason it feels as if I have to force the gears in harder when the engine is cold. Cold meaning, havent been driven since yesterday.

mine does the same two things - I beleive it it just because no oil - or any fluid has been able to move around the engine to quiet things.
Also - the reason its hard to get in gear is because i think the fluid lines have been able to settle overnight - causeing the fluid to settle back.

You should always let an engine warm upbefore driving it. My car runs like complete ass if i gotta hop in and take off, backfires, misses, etc... but if I warm it up, drives like a champ

yup warm that shit up before you drive hard, in the mornings my car makes all kinds of rattling and wiggling cause the JE pistons haven't had the chance to expand yet. i find when i warm it up a little all the noise goes away.

I usually wait at least 30 seconds, probably 1 minute would be ideal at least. I think 1 minute is plenty here in cali since it's always warm.

I have to let my car idle for about a minute or 2 for the crazy idle to settle down and then it takes about 30 seconds of driving slow for the tranny to warm up for easier shifting.

ok i think ill leave it for 1 minute from now on, that sounds like a reasonable amount of time. I'll try it out right now and see if it takes away those problems when first taking off. TIA

I find that if I turn my car on in the morning, and take off without warmup, the car run's as if it doesn't have a performance intake on it. But when I let it warm up to the point where the temperature guage reaches almost the middle, the car runs BEAUTIFULLY!!! Let it warm up to the middle of the temperature guage, it will run like a charm. Unless this is bad on the engine over time?

BTW, I have a 98' GS with 67k miles on it, running synthetic oil.

My laptop is always on in the passenger seat, I just watch the warm up cycle through the calmap software. I usually wait till the coolant temps are up to 195-200 where they should be, depending on what time of year, outside temp, it usually takes about 3-4 minutes to warm up properly... I firmly believe my engine likes me much better for doing this... but you all can do as you pleese.

you guys are right!!

I left my car running for about 45 seconds (it was already warm outside) and it drove way better than it usually does before warming it up. I was able to shift into gears easily and didnt hear that "grinding" noise. Now I know to warm it up. thanks again.
