I have a star stage 1 recently every time i beat on my car a little my power steering belt comes off. Its happened twice this week already. anybody else have this problem?? how can i make sure it doent happen again? Am i hurting anything else by driving w/o power steering?

well i've drove with out power steering for a while. its a pain, a major pain. just try to put it back on the pulley and tighten it down good. btw do u have a underdrive pulley?

Nope, you good to go with out that belt. Are cars have a good set up for shit like that. The alternator belt runs on a separate belt, the water pump is on the timing belt. So when that belt goes all you loose is power steering and A/C, but you will gain some HP, less drag on the engine. No power steering feels good when up to speed but it's a bitch tryin to park the fucker.

Try tensing the belt more. If you have had the crank pulley of, or installed a UDP, make sure the pulley is on all the way. If it's not pushed far enough onto the crank then the belts don't alight right and you can throw belts.

Yeah, just add more tension to the belt when you install a new one. Like what Michael said as well, make sure your crankpulley is on all the way. Try looking down the belt from the power steering pump to the crankshaft pulley and eyeball it to make sure it is dead-straight. When I installed my UDP, I went through about 3-4 belts before I realized that the UDP was off center by only 5-6mm. Even that small of a difference can cause all kind of trouble. Regardless of whether you have an UDP or the stock crank pulley. As a fix, I just took off the wheel, splashguard, and pulley bolt and went to town on the UDP with a RUBBER mallet. Got it fully seated and haven't had any problems since.

Also, get a 4 row (???) belt instead of the 5 row stock one, when you have the belt off your car, in the inner part you are going to count 5 grooves or rows. go to an autostore and buy the same lenght belt but with 4 grooves instead of 5. My PS didn't fall out the last time i was racing, because I have a "Costum" belt, when it fell off chunks of the belt where missing, i just put it back on and on.....

Ok i have a Question i just replaced both my altantor belt and my power steering belt and now my engine seems to rev high.. Is that because i replaced the belts or is there another problem? My check engine light is on but its been on since my steering belt came off.. any help would be wonderful thank you!
