#21522, "Help! i think the belts are screeching and the check battery light came on"
i was driving down i-5 from sf to la and about half way down here the check battery light came on and there was this incredibly loud screech. i pulled over and it looked like it was coming from the belts. i turned off the car and started it back up, the light went away and i had my wife press on the accelerater, occasionally there was some screeching (this was by no means a squeek). the belts were all intact but it looked like the udp was not spinning straight, just a little bit wobbly, not bad but still wobbly. i'm gonna take the car to a mechanic in the morning, does anyone have any ideas? i have an AF/X udp, could this be the same issue everyone complains about (the squeeling and such)??

If you battery light came on.. it means it's probably your altenator belt. Did you install it yourself? The bolt that goes thru the center of the udp may not be tight enough.. hense, causing it to 'wobble'.

Well hell yeah, if your UDP is wobbly then your belts will never be good. IT will also throw belts. So yeah that would be your alternator belt, I suggest replacing it pretty quick. That screaching is the belt slipping, which means the alternator pulley isnt turning as fast which means your not getting the proper charge.
Also the bolt going through the UDP doesnt really do shit. That pulley is on there TIGHT. I seriously doubt it would coem off even if you left that bolt off completely. The pulley needs to be pushed on farther it sounds like to me.
