Okay, i shimmed the intake and exhaust side with .030" shims. i STILL have a rough idle that fluctuates between 700-1000rpm. I now have an 11 CEL,(which wasent there before the shimming) and the cam followers are a bit loose under the exhaust cam even with the shims, but not loose on the intake side. I have been told 2 version about this: "its okay for them to wobble a little bit", and "they need to be snug on both sides", which is correct? Gary at howell says regrinds suck ass, and the guys who did the cams say they have had no problems in the past with the regrinds on the 420a. i live in a small town without a performance shop and cant take it to anybody to figure out so i need help form you guys. Do you have adjustable cam gears? I have heard that regrind cams do affect the idle, but I would imagine the if you could adjust the cam time with new cam gears that would help.

Did not they tell you that Cams will cause your idle to be a bit flactuating? no matter what kind of cam u will put in their, your idle will never be the same, wilder cams will make your idle even wores. that and your vac will also drop a bit.

try to shim your exhaust liters a bit more till you get them to sit still.

I have regrounds #16 cams, and my idle is no way near stock, my vac gauge reads a bit less than stock, and the car sometimes stalls after letting go of the gas from WOT. that's very normal.

so just get your exhaust cam liters to sit right (shim it a bit more) and live with it, oh also your bottem end power will be droped, and that's also normal.

No they (the cam people, im sure someone on here did at some point, but i didnt expect what i got) never told me about the idle thing. but mine seems to be "worse" than what would be expected. (although i dont know what normaly expected would be) so i'll try the .060 shims today and see what i get. thanks for the info.

It's just common sense that any kind of different cam is gonna make your idle different in some way, good or bad, if its a different grind it will affect something... btw, you also have a bored tb, that doesnt help the idle either.

yea, im learning that now! unfortunatly it wasen't a common sense thing for me at the time as i was trying to get an education about it all while doing it at all at the same time. I now know different. But im not certain (yet) if everyting is all because of the cams of if i am actualy off on my timing a bit. Car ran perfect before cams, now i have issues. Plus these aren't severe grinds, only 185 @.050, and 396(?) @.050. im told stock is like 160 @.050. (Not sure on last spec)
So i cant imagine having all this trouble when other guys who have more severe grinds seem to be doing okay. Yes, i concede i probably should have had more knowlegde going into this thing than i did, but without a good teacher around, im left with trial and error. unfortuanlty it more error right now...

Yes shug up the lifters. Idle will be affected by cams, adding overlap and duration to a cam will have an adverse side effect on idle, but a good one on perfermance.

Timing being off can definately mess up the ECU, With timing being more based off the crank sensor, if the cams are off then idle and power can be effected. I would suggest, for peace of mind, to check the timing if you have doubts that you got everythignlined up correctly.
