I found out that the Sebring has an option of getting the "Autostick" system, which lets drivers switch between automatic and clutchless manual transmission modes with a flick of a lever. So why would this help us? Well, the Sebring does have the 420A motor, close to ours, we can actually put a bottom end of a 420A into ours (the difference is that ours is 2.0L and that has 2.4L)... So back to the topic...
Can we get this semi-automatic transmission?...
Like when you want to test or race at the track, you could switch to manual, or when you want to drive on street, you could have auto..
Does anyone know anything about this?
And does anyone know about the 2.4L swap into our (2G NT) cars?

I'm not the most knowledgeable on the subject but here goes:

The difference isn't the bottom end, it's the head, that's what makes it 2.4l intead of our 2.0l. We both have 420a engines, but so does the NEON and as far as I know the trannies will not swap between the NEON and the Eclipse, so the Sebring might have the same issue. I don't know. It's all in whether or not the bellhousing will bolt to the block or not.

There are about 1000 topics on the 2.4l head swap floating around the Performance forum right now, look there for an answer to that.

Assuming the tranny would bolt up, would this be an improvement to a regular manual? Track wise, I mean can any non-manual tranny beat out a regular manual, assuming the driver of the manual is somewhat skilled? Also anyone know if the tranny has a rally style/Formula style shifting system or is it just an manually controlled automatic (i.e. it will never be faster than a regular manual)? Does the tranny shift fast for speed and power? Or is it more geared towards luxury/comfort and driveability, for the more adult/layed back kinda driver?

Those systems are crap!!!!! Dont waste your money, it still uses a torque converter and doesnt react right away, its the same as putting an auto in 1 than shifting up. The semi-auto gearboxes in F1 cars, ferrari's and soon to be BMW use a clutch and sequential setup which shift quicker and transfer power better and quicker. Keep your manual.

Woah the clutchless manuals that are in race cars are completely different from the POS sportronic type trannies.

Stick with a manual.

WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG.

The HEAD is EXACTLY the same on the 2.4 and 2.0's. The 2.4 block is 1 INCH taller which is where the extra .4 Liters comes in. Also the Tranny is EXACTLY the same, just the bell housing is different. Some of the tranny's have different gearing in them but they are all interchangeable.

Isn't that like saying the PT cruiser motor is the same as the Sebring is the same as the Avenger and Neon? I don't know about guts, but they look REALLY different on the outside. I think the only thing that universally swaps is the block.

And the guy who said that the top ends are different, I think he is mistaken, because I read in many places, that the top end are the same, and the bottom end is different (all the internals are in reverse)...

And the guy who said that all the bodies look different, and is it just the guts that are the same... He is catching on... Their bodies are different, but they all utilize the 420A engine.. Even though some are the 2.0L and some are the 2.4L, they both I believe will bolt on into ours...

And if you think about the 2.4L, don't think of the 4G64 (the mitsu 2G eclipse or the 3G NT motor), it is actually the Sebring (LXi Convert. I think) motor is also a 2.4L, but they also have it in the 2.0Ls (which we have)...

Why do you think the same Hahn Turbo (HRC) could fit in ours (Eclipse/Talon 2G NT) and into Neons, Sebrings and Avengers and others?...

If you think about it, the extra displacement maybe give us more power, considering that 0.4 L more gave the Sebring 10 more horses than ours, but I just learned all this today...

So if anyone has any input, just tell me...

sportronic (fake manuals) suck ass.. they aren't any better then having a normal auto, IT IS JUST A GIMICK, they don't launch and quicker.. they don't yeild any better times.. they don't shift any harder.. they are standard auto trannies and you can just 'manually' select what gear you want to be in (to some extent.. they won't let you downshift and over-rev the motor) it's the illusion of giving you more control and power.. the ONLY situation they help is when doing a rolling start, because you can already be in the lower gear and not wait for the tranny to downshift.. but you can do it anyways with any other auto tranny, just by moving the lever down to '2' or 'L' or whatever. but in conculsion.. they SUCK.. i've been in several vehicles with them.. they shift slow and are crap. plus if you are used to a normal auto you may forget to shift up when racing (which a standard auto will never do) and loose the race cause your lazy ass forgot to shift up.. hehe..

The bottom end on the 420A is the SAME DIRECTION ON ALL CARS WITH THAT ENGINE. The neon, eclipse, avenger, sebring. The tranny is on the same side and the crank pulley and timing belts are on the same side. The head is the same part but is mounted backwards on the neons where the intake is up front and the exhaust is out back.

The 2.4 does only give 10HP more stock but the IMPORTANT thing is the extra 40 ft lbs of torque.

guys...i keep seeing avenger being brought up in 2.4 talks...

the avenger NEVER came with a 2.4L. the sebring coupe NEVER came with a 2.4L.

the sebring coupe is the same is the avenger. the sebring sedan is a completely different car.

the neon also didnt come with the 2.4

someone said something bout the PT>Avenger>Sebring>Neon all being the same... not at all true. all have the 420a, but the latter 3 had the 2.0L, and the neon has the same reverse head as the PT, cept the PT has the head on the 2.4L

when talking about the 2.4L, forget about the avenger and sebring coupe. we have the same enigne you guys have, and the only other engine available was the mitsu 2.5L V6 6g73.

Taco: HRC puts the eclipse turbo kit into avengers and sebring coupes CAUSE WE HAVE THE SAME IDENTICAL ENGINE. the Neon head is reversed, and the kit piping is COMPLETELY different. the block is identical, but the intake and exhaust cams are switched.

the 2.4L's all have the same head as the neon 2.0L. the block is taller, w/ longer rods to get 2.4L. the head is reversed.

This really isnt complicated:

2gnt Eclipse/Talon/Avenger/Sebring coupe = 2.0L w/ DSM-Backwards head

95-99 Neon = 2.0L w/ Chryco-Head

95+ Cloud Cars (excluding 00+ coupes)/PT = 2.4L w/ Chryco Head

The DSM and Chry-co Head all utilize the same "guts" but the intake and exhaust cams are opposite. The 2.4L block is ~1" talled and has different rods for the xtra displacement. the DSM direction head will bolt to the 2.4L block, so we can get the extra displacment w/o having to have the 2.4 ecu (the different direction heads means different ecu's)



about the autostick tranny = its no different, shifting is just as slow, only you get to hit up or down. launch will be the same. Get the final drive gears out of the 2.4L auto trannies and put them in your tranny, it'll basically raise the final drive for quicker acceleration (less top speed, big fawkin deal)

On the cloud cars.. they do not all have the 2.4L 420a. The Plymouth Breeze (1st gen) only comes with a 2.0L 420a (identical to neon). and the Stratus and Cirrus only come with the 2.4L 420a (if I remember right) but I am 100% positive about the Breeze. I used to own one.. and I added some goodies to it.. great 4door car.

so, i will keep "toting" how simple it is, because it is.

also, the 2.0L in the cloud cars is completely different engine. its a SOHC 2.0L, and was the base neon engine. the DOHC engine is the 2.0L everyone is talking about . The SOHC block is essentially the same, excpet the pistons, and the heads are interchangable (but obviously require the ecu). BUT there is no point in even discussing the SOHC here, since we all already have the DOHC

Ryan.. yeah i know it's a SOHC in there.. but that'd be cheap place to get an extra 2.0L 420a bottom end. Who gives a shit about extra heads anyway? this thread is about bottom end/motor swaps since you'd have to keep your top end anyway (unless you wanna swap in your cams and some other shit.) hehe.

except the thread is about 2.4L's. the SOHC has the same bottom end as us, except lower compression pistons. so why would anyone swap in the SOHC block to make less power? yes, its lower compression, but theyre still brittle cast pistons and cant handle any more boost than ours already can.

taco: no, the avenger has a 2.0L DOHC 420a (same engine in the eclipse) and a a 2.5L SOHC 6g73 v6. 2.4 was NEVER an option (or else ild have one ). your confusing the sebring sedan and convertible with the sebring coupe. they are entirely different cars. the sebring coupe is basically an avenger, which is bascially a 2gnt. the sebring sedan and convertible are just cloud cars.

also, the neon r/t has a 2.0L DOHC 420a also. the neon never came with a 2.4L, until of course the new Neon SRT4. this is why all the neon guys scavenge for cloud cars w/ the 2.4

i guess i was thinking more along the lines of an easy to get a 2.0L project block (which you'd scrap all the internals anyway). but oh well .. it is about 2.4L's i suppose, hehe.
