#21412, "Anyone try removing A/C, Power Steering Belt when Racing????"

I just wanted to know if anyone has tryed removing the A/C, Power Steering Belt while racing in the 1/4 mile? Wouldn't you gain some HP if you did?

I just thought of this because:

1.) It is very easy to remove and install(less than 5 min)

2.) My friend how has a camaro doesn't even have power steering or A/C or heat, just to get more HP. He only runs an alternator because it is a street car.

I thought you could also remove the alternator belt but it is so hard to get to.

Just thought it might be a good idea. Tell me what you think.

Well I have A/C but since I kept shredding belts I got a shorter belt and just bypassed the a/c and really didn't feel any sort of a power gain. I just dont think it would be worth it.

Ok I here ya. But what about the UDP. It is by far the best mod for the money. and just thinking of it not having to turn anything makes me think it should make some real HP.

I should just take the hole dam UDP off one time and see what she could run? That should at least add 10HP

I dont have AC, i dont know how much hp it added probably like .5, hehe, but its less clutter in the engine bay, less unsprung weight, and southern indiana doesnt got too aweful hot in the summer time anyways... but power steering is something i am not gonna sacrafice, i'll drive the old truck if i feel like fighting with the wheel, hehe.... I did however mis a gear, hit 2nd instead of 4th, bounced past revlimit, shreaded the accesory belts, and still won the race, bmw m3 2 seater...

"I should just take the hole dam UDP off one time and see what she could run? That should at least add 10HP"

She couldn't run anything without a crank pulley, and you'd probable free a lot more than 10hp, even though that power would be useless.

I think it could run. How do you figure it couldn't run? All the UDP does is turn the alternator, power steering, and A/C. All you would need to do is charge up your battery before each run. I have the AFX UDP and it is NOT needed to run the engine.

I threw my alt belt and my ac ps belt last weekend and I didn't notice much of a difference. I think the reason that the udp makes a difference is that it's actually the weight of the crank pulley that is the problem not the fact that it is belted to the ac,ps, and alt.

<<<All you would need to do is charge up your battery before each run>>>

u wouldnt be able to do it during regular driving situations (take off both belts).

im sure that when u take off the p/s a/c belt, u free up sum power becasue it lessens the load on the udp/crank... but this isnt fun for daily drivin either...

I'm just talking about the track. Removing the whole UDP should free up some extra HP.

If it dont free up some HP by just removing the belts they why do people talk about a supercharger taking HP to make HP?
