if you know my current issue, i have the mild regrind cams that need to be shimmed. i drove approx. 2miles with them in and unshimmed and i have a 21 CEL and a rough idle. could this be from the non-shimmed cams? (shims come in tomorrow)

21 is for the o2 sensor, but I guess the rough idle might cause very strange air/fuel readings and cause that code. Or else maybe your o2 sensor just happened to die (they only last about 2 years typically).

thanks fast, i had those but didn't understand them fully. all was well with car before cams, then got code right after install(un-shimmed). could they be realted or just pissy coincidence?

I think it's a coincidence. Reset the ECU and see if it comes back.
