#20611, "cam gear install"

ok, i just got my car back from the guy that did my 60k service. we flushed the coolant system, changed all the belts, and did the new water pump. here's the catch, when i start the car, it doesn't rev up like it used to. it goes to about 1200 instead of the normal 1500 then it goes to 800. on the way home it almost stalled out twice, but now it is fine. i was thinking that not having it started for 8 days in a row and flushing out the coolant and then refilling it was the problem. anyways, this is just a good excuse to go ahead and by the cam gears. they will come in on friday and i need a general idea of how to install them or at the worst, get them installed by someone. i'd really like to do the work myself if i can, i just need a write up or explination on it. thanks.

Dude, you just had your 60K service done and NOW you are thinking about putting adjustable cam gears on?!?!?! You should have done it when you had your 60K service done. Anyway, my idle sits around 800 - 900 as well (I think your talking about your idle?).

yeah, it's like when i start it up it doesn't rev up all the way like it used to. and the idle still seems kinda eratic and off. so i can just get the same guy to put them in but i was wondering if i could just cut the timing cover and pop them off?

Sounds like the timing belt might be off slightly or one tooth. Usually causes a rough idle. And
to put on the cam gears, you will have to take off all that stuff that was just taken off for your 60K service...

if it isn't the timing that is off, could it be the map sensor? it just idels funny and when i get on it, it's fine. so i'm kinda stuck here on what to do. also i am going to adjust my throttle plate, b/c if i barely touch the gas, it idels fine.

i took off the inspection cover and all the teeth are fine on the cam gears. the guy that did the work does quality work. he asked if there was anyway to advance or retard the timing on our cars. i said all i know is you can get adjustable cam gears, a chip, and an ignition system. i got the msd but it retards the system for nos or turbo or supercharger.
