>We dont have harmonic balancers on our cars?

yes you do. It's integrated into the Crank pulley. so I'm not sure exactly what the fellow above is trying to say..
Could you not get your crank pully off man?

Well i did my UDP install 3 weeks ago with no problems. Vegasdsmr has a good write-up on how to do it, or you can use the tool made especially for that job. As for the original question on how to get the broken piece out... If you can see part of it.. maybe try to drill a hole in it and use a tap to pull it out?

crank pulley tool made for the 420a...

Make sure you are using a 5 TON 3 JAW puller, anything else WILL BREAK!

After you tap and yank the extention out, just use the stock pulley bolt(screwed out a bit) to push off of. It worked for me.

Here is the problem. I have a socket extension tip broke of inside the bolt hole. My pulley bolt broke and i asked a guy and he said i could prob take the harmonic balencer out and not risk killing all of my threads cause the only way to get that hard ass extension out is with one of the hardest metals none to man....A Tennasee Valley Authority 6 inch ball burr....the only prob is my dad getting it from em....So i think im gonna have to use alot of the ones from my air tool box, but that will only work if i can get closer to the tip...the extension broke off in the threads... emoji

no our pulley is not a balancer, it is a dampner, but not a balancer

yes there is a difference

a balancer is keyed to the crankshaft (there's a notch on the crank and on the pulley so it lines up a certain way) so it actually is part of the balancing of the engine

a dampner (which is on the 420A) is just stuck on the end of the crank and keeps the vibration down, but doesn't actually do any balancing

my car ran smoother after installation of the UD pulley, strangely enough

I thought he typed hormonic dampener.. hehe. I've never heard a balancer refered to as a harmonic balancer. anyway..

Todd hit it on the head, harmonic damper, a world of difference.

To pull the pulley all the way off I needed to get a longer crank bolt. Get a hardened bolt grade 10, same pitch thread etc. But about an inch longer. You will be able to push on that with the puller and the crank pulley will come off like butter.

Speaking of that notch on the crank. You say notch meaning grove right. Kinda looks like someone took a tool and dug out a little slot. And on the crank gear there is the same sort of thing. You can see they match up by looking at the two. So my question is does something sit in the notch on the crank w/ the crank gear over it or does it stay open?

On my toyota there was a little half moon 'key' that sat in the groove in the crank, and the balancer slid over it.

I used a 100mm length version. It worked great for me.
