ok here is what ive been thinking about. now we all know that the auto transmission is puss. no arguing 'BOUT THAT, NOW OUR CURRENT STALL SPEED IS 2200 RPMS ... now we all hear about getting a rebuilt tq converter that would in fact raise the stall speed and thus improving launches ..
this is all fine and dandy
until i heard that u will lose driveability, meaning that if you dont power break and drive away from a launch normally your car will react very badly ... meaning that it wont start to get going until after the stall speed ... which isnt a good thing
tq coverters, as i was reading, have alot to do with tq, weight and your cars power band. now since we have low weight and low tq our stock converters were given a 2200 rpm range ...
now my question is this ... would we benefit from a lower stall speed converter ? would this actually make our power band lower on the rpm scale ? also with a lower stall you wouldnt be running as hot .. or cause as much wear and tear ... this is just a thought so please can i have some intellegent answers !!~~!!

Well... you don't necessarily have to powerbrake... just step on the gas and go. RPMs do not increase slowly, it take me all of a second to go from 700 RPMs to 3000 RPMs. The car will start moving before 3000 RPMs, just just slipping the clutch with a MT. If you floor it fast, the wheels will spin though.
As far as drivability, I prefer driving with the high stall speed. I don't drive like most do when I'm in my Eclipse, though. You're car will not stall out at lights or any junk like that that I've heard. And when you're at highway driving speeds the torque converter is locked up. For example, when cruising on the highway, you will not have to reach 3000 RPMs to start accelerating. That would make interstate/highway driving very difficult and annoying.
I don't recommend a high stall T.C. for most cars, though. But if you're building a go-fast car and that's how you drive it all the time, then I think you'd love it. It changes the way the car drives completely. Your tranny will not drive like grandma's any more!

Well the reason to get a high stall torque converter is because our cars have low torque in the lower RPM range. This makes launches horrible and there's no way to stand a chance against the 5 speed guy next to you. If you lower the stall speed, it's going to be even worse! It wouldn't move the powerband back either, as that is mostly affected by the engine and it's mods.
Imagine this- You and I are lined up ready to run. I powerbrake and hold my rev at 3000 RPMs. You do that same and hold yours at 2200 RPMs. I'm right inside my powerband and will make more power off the line. Who do you think will win this race? Now imagine if you lowered your stall speed!
BTW- can anyone confirm that the F4AC1 is the same tranny as the A604? I don't think this is correct but mcguyver (i think that's his name) said they are. Can you prove this to me mcguyver because I can't seem to confirm it. Thanks

The F4AC1 IS the A604.
One is Mitsu's designation, the other is the manufacturer's designation.
Same with the MTX: F5MC1 is the mitsu number, but it is stamped NV-T350 on the side. it's a New Venture Gear tranny..

i know about the stall speed being low .. i was just reading something from b & m and they were saying that high power cars ... v8 300hp and above should have 3000 rpm stall speeds ... thats the only reason why im doubting our whoppin 140 ...lol
