hey.. anyone heard of the 2.4liter engines?? are they compatible with the 420a engines?? I am thinking that with the 2.4 displacement I could get more lbs or torque. is this possible?? and about how much will it cost to do something like that??

if you are talking about the gs convertable 2.4L than no, they are not compatable, but the 2.4L chyrsler engine is also a 420a and this is some info:

"1. Neon head vs our head vs 2.4 head, bottom line, they are all the same part number. the only differences is the way the internals of the valve train they are backwards. basically we can slap our head on to a 2.4 and everything will work as is, asides from maybe having to adjust cam timing w/ cam gears.(still looking for cam profiles on the 2.4 to compare to ours

2. Aftermarket support- A/FX or howell automotive have parts availabe to the 2.4 liter. but since we are still using our head we can still use all the eclipse/talon made parts w/ maybe the exception of the af/x pully, i have to look into that more. also i have to find out if an engine rebuild kit is available for these cars the eagle rods do exist i believe but they arent packaged on the howell site. pistons rings are all the same just rods are different.

3. Clearance-- at this point there should be NO clearance issues, we will have to swap the oil pans. and you will more then likely no longe be able to use a front strut bar. other then that everything is a go from there.

4. the alternator i know for a fact will go on to the motor as it is the same exact bracket. i cant imagine everything else not going on. it would save chrysler alot of money on parts and training. you may have to adjust the height of some stuff but nothing major. also you'd have to get belts for the 2.4 at this point now. the under drive pulley belts as well if you decided to go w/ that."

This is quote from thunderous talon in an email he sent me when i too was looking to see if it was possible.

The 2.4 L only does 10 more hp but makes 50 more lb/ft. And should you ever decided to turbo this engine that 50 lbs will be nicely supplemented

hey thanks for the info.. so pretty much I can get a 2.4L 420A bottom end from a neon?? and just swap it out right? change a few things like oil pan and belts. Nothing really costly right?? and get 50 more lbs or torque?? sounds pretty good to me. But I cant use the spyder 2.4L engine?? how come?? I thought that it was the same?. I haven't seen any posts so as so far on anyone actually doing this.. Is it reason being that its costly and not really worth the money and time for the performance it produces?? hmm.. if possible I would like to gather as much info on this cause I am really looking to up the liter displacement of my engine before I strap on a turbo kit. I was thinking about just doing a GS-T engine swap, but I think that the the long run it costs way to much for all the "little" things involved.. getting engine mounts and new rad and fans, things like that. Please if you can trow anymore info my direction I would greatly appreciate it. And when I do actually get my ass in gear and start this project,.. I'll def keep posts on the progress and take lots and lots of pics for everyone. Thanks.

Hey Jason,

The reason that you can't use the spyder's 2.4L is because it has a Mitsubishi 4g64 motor. Which is a SOHC 2.4L same 4cyl. that the new body style eclipses RS and GS come with. As you know our motors are 420a's which are chrysler, so the swap of the 2.4L that you would be looking into would be from a 2.4L neon motor. To be honest with you, I don't know anything about that swap, but if there is compatibility with our blocks, that would be a really cool project. Good Luck with it.

2.4L neons are very hard to find compared to 2.4L Stratus's.

is the Stratus block compatible with the 420a head? Where do you even find parts for the stratus?

the only neon's i've seen with 2.4L's are the newest models which has a different 2.4L if I remember right. I think the 2.4L in the stratus it the one that is a 420a. I don't think the one in the neon is.. but it might be.
