My main bearing just went up and I was wondering if it would be more cost effective if I just replaced the engine with a new one, or to rebuild my bottom end. If I need to just replace the engine where is a good place to get one at.

Any advice is greatly appreciated,

How do you know it was a main bearing?

I don't know for sure, my dad listened to it. It sounds deeper than a valve tap or bad lifter. He believes it's the main bearing I take it to a mechanic tomorrow to make sure

i think if it was the mail bearing, your engine would of seized up and would not run...

It's probably the rod bearing, I've spun mine twice.

If your looking at replacing the engine, or at least the bottom end, try M&S recycling. I don't know if they still do, but they used to always have small adds in the back of one of the import publications. You could also try remanufactured-engines.com. NO 'www' in the url. They sell small blocks, long blocks, or even bare blocks.
I noticed you posted up on the Capital Area DSM board about it too, hope it works out for you...

My Rod Bearings just Spun, It started as a small tapping ticking, all mechanics around here said it was a noisy lifter, but i found out the hard way and tore the entire engine down for a complete 100k Rebuild, and my Crank Bearings were Scored and Scratched up and my Rod Bearings were Badly Spun, The worst most people here have seen,
It does sound like a deeper ticking and will get worse,
i have around 300 - 500 into my engine but i'm doing the entire rebuild, that includes ALL Gaskets, new Main Bearings, New Crank, New Rod Bearings, New Oil Seals Front and Timing Cover, new "O" rings, New Water Pump, New Tensioner, Rebuilt Oil Pump, Pulleys, Honed Cylinders, Unorthodox UDP, Bored TB to 57 and port Matched Intake....if you need help with parts, i've been working on this for sometime.. drop me an AOL IM Ray2519 or email me at rvrabel1@adelphia.net
