hi, i just registered on the board, my buddy doug is a member and speaks very highly of it so i figured i should sign up. i own a 95 3000gt n/a with a couple mods done to it (k&n fipk, flowmaster catback exhaust, dn performance cold air intake, eibach pro kit springs, 18" alt wheels). but recently i have had some problems.... ive been having problems at high rpm's under hard acceleration. the car seems to hestitate and give up at about 4,000 rpm. so i replaced my spark plug wires (not my plugs cause they only have 40 thousand miles on them, and ive been told that platinums are still good at that point). but now i still have the hesitating problem, and the car now backfires a little bit under hard acceleration. ive had my feul pump and filter replaced already. does anyone have any suggestions or know what this problem could be? thanks.

i would swap your plugs, at least check em to see how they look..i change mine every other oil change i dunno ne thing about your engine, but u should try to find out what plug is recommended and use them..
u ever run at the trak?? what kinda times do u get n/a status?? i had a really close race w/a 3kgt definately nt, but would like to know...
good luck..

I would get plugs and see if that helps. I had the same problems at one point, just needed a tune up and spark plug change. I dont know about 3000gt, but I woul get some MGK's, they sound really nice.

yea, thanks.. its pretty much what i thought too. now that you guys say it too, i thnk it def could be the prob. vegasdsmr: i havent ran at the track, however the 220hp 3000gt, the n/a, will run the 1/4 anywhere from high 14's to low 15's. fastest time ive seen stock was a 14.5. but when 1997 came around, and the 3kgt got the larger wing, they made a 161hp engine and that engine became the engine in the base model, and the sl stayed with the 220hp engine. i dont know the times on a 161hp engine, but im guessing its considerably slower than the 220 since its a pretty heavy car and that loss of power isnt wouldnt be good. but any other year, before 97, with the flat wing, all had the 220hp and are capable of high 14's stock. hope that helps you out.

I had the same symptoms as you once and it was a bad MAP sensor. I'm not sure about your type of engine, but if you have a MAP sensor you may want to check it. Mine was shorting so wiggling it made it act up and the car would hesitate. The ECU reads the MAP sensor to determine A/F ratio and spark advance.

Unfortunately, the 3/S has a MAF sensor (Mass Air Flow) which actually reads a Karmann air count, rather then a manifold pressure. The setup is the same as on the turbo Eclipses (really, as in the FIPK from one will work fine on the other). Maybe the MAF is hurting? I would peg my money on plugs, and hey, they are cheaper then a MAF sensor. Do you have access to a datalogger? Might help to see if you have popped any OBD codes. -=B-=
Dude, Boeing called. They want their wing back.

have you run any race gas through it??? if so, that reduces the life of your platnum plugs.
That being said, I am 90% sure our plugs are shot dude. platnum is good for lasting longer than copper, but they aren't as great as people say. my vr-4 did the EXACT SAME THING when my iridium plugs fouled. Just put some new platnums or some copper plugs in there. i am not sure what the base and sl's use, but I know the vr-4's use a bkr6E plug or a bcpr6es plug stock from ngk (copper) not sure on the platnum number 'though. replacing your plugs should take 45 min if you are good at it.. check 3si.org to make sure you get the right plug.
