manual NT's red at 7300, AT's at 6500 i think. we peak out (manuals) at 6000 anyway, so dont sweat it, its probably just old, my engine hits a wall at about 6200 as well (unless my autometer is off)

I loaded a dyno run off the 2gnt page with the AEM CAI and BTB I think, maybe an exhaust onto a car program. But anyway I put in the gear ratios, final, and tire diameter and power at 1000rpm intervals. For best performance you should shift at 7100, 7000, 6800, 6500.

I don't know what engine you have that you run out of power at 6000 but even before I put in my cams I pulled to 7200 no problem. WIth cams the car would pull much further if there wasn't a redline. As far as shift points go, I shift at 7000 in first and then 7200 in all other gears.

Hmmm..i'd have to agree with Cyan too, it seems like my car doesnt noticibly pull any harder after 6200 rmps for some reason. I usually shift around there, not redline...

Try porting your intake manifold and I guarantee you'll notice a difference. The manifold does seem to restrict the flow in the upper RPM range but I didn't think it was enough to make people shift earlier!

Don't know about the VX but Stock is BKR6E11 and one range hotter is BKR5E11. Use one range hotter if you are not turboed.

I tend to agree with fast420a on this one. I also shift about 7000 rpm on drag runs. Last weekend i got a better launch into second gear when I shifted at about 6800 rpm(not so much squeel and actully felt like the car pulled a bit harder). Then between 7000 and 7200 into third and fourth.
My super afc says my rev limit is right at about 7250,( It actually will record about 7400 but it is from the engine carrying the momentum).
BTW I too have a P&P job on mine and I do not notice any power drop(or a real gain) above 6000 rpm.

I know it doesn't pertain all the way.. but my zx2's redline is at 7000 or 7200 i'm not exactly sure. Peak HP is at 5500 rpm.. and after about 6000 the power drops off pretty quickly. I just do my shifts so that after I shift the RPM's don't drop below 4000 (start of the power band for a zx2). as long as teh rpm's stay above 4K, i seems like I get the best runs. That usually equates to shifting at about 6K on the tach. but also on a zx2 every intake, exhaust, and head mod ya do brings the power up considerably in the high rpms, but doesn't bring the peak power up to much. so I may only get 15HP or so HP at peak from a full head kit.. but in the upper RPM's (like around 6500) it brings the power up an amazing 50-60HP.. that's nice.

Think of it this way though, you shift from 1 - 2 or 2 - 3 at 6000 rpm and you are gonna end up at 3000-3500 rpm OUT of the power band, You shift at 7000 - 7200 and you are going to be at 4000-4500 right where the good power is. I ran 2 different drag runs, one with the MSD rev limit at 7000 and one with it at 7250. I was fast when I was able to go completely though the rev range and be at a higher rpm after shifting.

Hey breezio, you know where I can find a dyno run of a zx-2 with your mods? I can help you with that shift question.

here is a bunch of zx2 dyno's. none with my exact mods.

http://www.zx2racing.com/dyno.htm

but aside from that.. I'm pretty confident that where I shift works out good for my car and times.

WTF is going on with those dyno runs, your only losing 10ft/lbs of torque, but losing like 30hp, why is it like that. Using the torque to hp equation you should be making more than 140HP, am I reading it wrong or what?

probably reading it wrong.. some of those graphs have different TQ and HP numbers on opposite sides of teh graph.. so ya gotta make sure you are referenceing the right side of the graph when looking for the TQ and HP numbers in certain RPMs.

Ok, that makes sense. I cant see the other side of the graph I was looking at, can I use any of those graphs or just the ZX2, cause I cant see what the torque figures are?

Hey breezio, your redline is 7000, my program and the dyno run shows it at 6200rpm. Is it cause yours is newer? Cause with a 6200rpm redline you should shift at 6200 in first than 5900 for the rest of the shifts!

my redline (as set by the PCM) is at 7000ish rpm. when running it hard I shift between 6000-6500 from 1-2 and 2-3, 3-4 is never higher then a 6000rpm shift. and 4-5 doesn't matter cause I can hit the speed limiter in 4th.

and for reference this is the graph (front wheel HP and TQ) of a stock zx2.
and the numbers on the right side are for both HP and TQ. but everything looks like it makes sense to me..
