I was being so carefull trying to take of that damn speedo gear (the one on the stock diff) and then that bastard broke on me. I think the nylon had become somewhat brittle since I have a 95' and it is so old. Anyway, for those that have done this, did anyone else break the speedo gear trying to get it off? And if so how hard was it to get that part from the dealer. I will be calling dodge tommorrow. Thanks.

I beat on my speedo gear with a rubber mallott, mines a 98, and it went on good, BUT do me a favor, tell me which way the grooves go? compared to the ring gear, are the grooves going the same direction? cause I might(small might) have put it on backwards, havent got the engine started yet to see, hehe... I am sure that is a dealer part you can order from any mopar carrier....

I got it for 1125 shipped on GBC. Super20G it sounds like you have it on correctly, the gears do angle in the same direction as the main ring gear. I called mopar today, it's like 2.50 but it won't be here until next wednesday. I bet Satan wants like $10 for it.

For future note - if anyone is interested in the Quaife, the cheapest place in the USA is RRE. They sell them for us for $1075 every day price.

Other than price, what are the diferences between the quaife and phantom grip LSD's?

The difference...Everything! The Quaife is a true limited slip diff, a stand alone differential, so your stock diff comes out and sits in your garage for 10 years. The phantom grip is just a jury rig for your stock differential, I don't know how well it works, I have heard both good and bad. The way it modifies the stock diff scares me when I look at it, but for the price it's probably not a bad deal.

Satan probably wants more than tan 10 bucks for the speedo gear... if a output shaft bearing is 40 bucks and its plastic... hehe... Glad to hear I put it on right, lol, I was 95% sure, but something said "check to make sure". The quaife btw, will hold a hell of a lot of horsepower, the stock diff will still only handle so much power, usually atound 300hp, if you hook up good, you'll f**k some stuff up... and wheel hop will do it too... btw, all you gotta do is join group buy center and email a company that carries them, I got mine for 1150 shipped.... RRE wanted 1175+ shipping... a few bucks is a few bucks...

phantom grip is like the equivalent or welded your diff shut and just letting it spin. It's ok for straight line acceleration but corners it sux hard. Real LSD will always be better, sooo expensive though O_o

I thought that pantoms were a 'clutch style' LSD, which works great for RWD cars.. and most new vehicles either come with a clutch style lsd or a viscous style one, if they have an LSD that is.

phantoms aren't even a diff at all, they're like an add on thinga majigger for you existing diff. beats me if it's like a clutch style one. I think the quaife is like that.

Hades, clutch type LSD's are just an add-on for a compatable differential. When i get around to getting a datsun 510 I can swap in an older subaru LSD (clutch type) but those units have pretty bad gear ratios, like 3.70 instead of the 3.90 that's in most 510s. so you can open up the differential case and take the clutch system out of the subaru one and put it in the 510 one. so ya get the lsd and the 3.90 gears.

I don't think the gear can be put on in the wrong direction. If I am thinking correctly, wiht angle cut cogs, if you turn it upside down, the angle will still be the same.

I have the lsd and have been using it for a few weeks. Its awesome. Talk about true traction. Now instead of just spinning one tire, i spin both =)

Around the turns though, i STILL havent gotten handle of the sheer power and traction going through turns while on the gas. Just takes a while getting used to it i guess?

what are u smokin dude? if you turn it upside down, as in flip it vertically, it can be backwards. think about it.if u flipped it horizontally it would be the same.

Having Problems? Heres my Three step solution to anything 2gnt related.
Step 1: Put down everything in your hands.
Step 2: Grab a lucky strike, Smoke it.
Step 3: Walk to the fridge, double fist some keystone ice, sit down in the shade, drink one beer, finish cigarette, drink other beer, roll a joint, smoke it, walk back to your problem, and in about 5 minutes the solution will come to you.
If not. Go here: here

If still nothing, your trying to hard. Start over at step 1.
