I just received a MSD DIS-2 Ignition Sys. for my birthday (along w/ a Iceman CAI):) and was wandering if any of you had one of these. If so have you seen any performance gains w/ it? I am going to put it in this weekend and if any of you have put one in before is there anything I need to watch out for during the install? Any help would be great.

You might have trouble hooking the MSD up...I think you need one to hook it up.

I don't have one, so I can't really give you an definitive answer.

I don't know much about it, but I think it'll just make your tach readings accurate.

I have opne and I can tell you that your throttle will be "crispy'er" on the gas. As far as actual performance gains, MSD could and would be your best bet for answers. I wish I could give you more info, but I have not drivin my car in 3 months, ever since I had my latest in stages done. ie.
S-AFC/MSD/HRC STAGE II TURBO/440 INJECTORS. Now I am rebuilding my motor, so I should see the fruits of my Labor this next week or 2.

What it does...

Increases the spark energy going to th spark plug. So I would increase the gap of your plugs. A bigger spark is suppose to burn more fuel faster. I don't have an ignition amp so I can't give you any first hand descriptions, but I woul dthink you'll see some improvement in the higher rpms. It will be good when you get some more mods done and you can do some fine tuning with it. I don't know if it comes with it or not but you can get different modules to add on like the ability to retard ignition etc. Good for fine tuning and squeezing those last few ponies out.

Yes you'll need a tach adapter because of our dual coil set up. or the ignition amp will only see half the cylinders firing.

well, With basic mods (intake exhaust, header) you will see hardly any improvement. usu, unless you are having spark blow-out, you won't see any more power from an ignition amplifier. I put a MSD dis-2 HO on my car a long time ago (before I took it apart), and the only advantage I saw was the built in 2 step rev limiter (that little addition was cool hehehe). don't expect any more than 3HP gain with the msd on a stock motor 'though. you don't really need it. The tach adapter is there to strengthen the trigger signals going to the msd so all the other accessories that run off of that pulse (tach, injectors, etc...) will still operate fine with no CEL action. It's allways a good idea to get a stronger ignition system when you start increasing the power of the motor in large quantities 'though (higher compression, forced induction, nitrous, etc..)

I have one and haven't really noticed any power gains but the acceleration is a little more quicker. Yep, the two step rev limiter is definitely fun for the track. You just need to connect the blue or brown wire (can't remember) to a momentary push button switch and ground it. And yes, you really need those 2 tach adapters so you can get accurate tach readings. I did the install last night and all in all it was succesful. The only prob I have is the CEL came on. Now I installed the 2 tach adapters and this shouldn't of happend should it? I'm sure its some wrong wiring but can anyone help? Also, somebody please tell me I don't have to take it to the dealership to have the CEL removed. I dont want to have to take all of this stuff off!!!

Call MSD and they will talk you through the install. They told me that there have been cases where the CEL comes on even thought the Tach addapters were installed. Call them and get their take on it.

MSD is REALLY patient and willing to help you out. NO, you don't need to go to the dealership to remove the CEL just unplug your positive(preferably, negative is fine too) battery cable for 15 minutes and it completely resets our PCM

Oh yeah, to the people that have these installed, just curious, where did you all install them? I had to make a custom shelf where the stock airbox was. Looks DAMN good too!! NE way just wanted to know where everybody else was putting them.....

Well the instructions (sue me for reading instructions) said I could get 2 8910 tach adapters or 1 8912. It was cheaper to get the 2 8910's so I did. Well come to find out you cant to that anymore (why was it in the instructions?) Any way just had MSD send the 8912, installed it and everythings good
