#19681, "oil down a bit...normal?"

well, it's been a little over a month since satan replaced my HG, and everything seems to be running fine. i've put about 1000 miles on it since the new HG and i just checked the oil today and it was about half way full on the dipstick. problem is i filled it up(maybe a little too much) about 2 weeks ago, and have maybe driven 500 miles. i've also done a comp test and the #'s are great, about 210 accross the board. so is it normal for the engine to use that much oil(1/2qt?) after that much driving? is it possible for my comp #'s to be that good, and there to still a HG problem? also, maybe some of u remember me posting about bubbles on my dipstick a couple weeks ago. turns out that i only see them(very few, maybe three or four small ones) when the engine is hot, and people have told me that is normal...is it? i just can't see how there could be any kind of problem w/ if i've got compression #'s at 210, so 'i'm stumped on where the oil went. maybe blow-by? i haven't checked my intake pipe, but i did feel the bottom of the filter, and there was no oil soaking through. could that much oil blow out though? dunno, what're your takes on it.

If you had blow by your compression wouldn't be that good so that aint the problem. Shit my engine burns oil also and it only has about 10,000 miles on it. I change my oil every 3,000 miles and I put 4.5 quarts and after I have driven about 2,000 miles I end up having to put that other .5 quart for the last 1,000 miles before I change my oil. These engines just have a hard time keeping oil.

yeah, i've heard they burn oil, and before my HG was leaking i had to put in a qt every 1000 or so. i just didn't know if i should still have to after the new HG. thanks.

Damn, i dont know why some of you guys are using oil. Between my 3000 mile oil changes, i use NO MORE than a half a quart of oil. It seems like some of the 420A's use more than others for some reason...
