Ok my trans makes a whining noise in the 1-3 gears. I have been told that it is because of the blocker rings. Now my question is what the heck is a blocker ring. And will anything bad happen if I don't do anything about it. Thanks,

another crude name for sychro. YES you do need them. They keep sychros in spec.

Shit is all apart. Typical...

my tranny whines in first and second.. as far as I know every mtx tranny does (you just usually can't hear it over the engine noise) do you only hear it when it's a high speed for that gear? like if you do a downshift to 2nd at 40mph? cause when I do stuff like taht I can hear the tranny gears whine a bit.

First of all, Blocker Ring is not a "crude" name for Syncro. it's the opposite way around. Blocker Ring is the technical name. As for gear whine, it does happen on all manual transmissions not only transaxles. Usually this is due to the gear profile in todays transmissions with helical gears. If you were to have spur gears/straight cut gears the noise would be substatially higher. There is one advantage to spur gears though, that's increased torque transfer. Thats why race cars use them, they also don't care what it sounds like. I wouldn't worry about the noise. That is, unless it becomes very bad.

So will any thing really bad happen if I just let it go. The noise is not all that loud, almost like a quiet turbo spooling up. And it gets louder the higher up the rpm is. I can't feel anything bad shifting.
