#19513, "NEED HELP!! 5 speed tranny problem"

Hey all, 99 elclipse GS 5 speed....was sitting at red light rolling back and forth a bit and my impatience did me in.I peeled out while the light was red and hit the brakes and took it out of 1st..so i'm sitting there waiting again and it finally turns green..hit the clutch try to put it in gear and it won't go in!! wtf..if i have the clutch in and try to put it in any gear it won't go in and if i hold the shifter forward like putting into first and clutch down it rolls barely same thing with clutch out...the only way I could get it into gear is turn car of be fully stopped then press clutch put in gear start car then release and it starts roling i can shift but very hard and grinds a bit but once i stop and it's in neutral again I sorry for the long book trying to explain the best i can..tia.
p.s suggestion on clutch kits and prices/websites

sounds like your clutch isn't fully disengaging. can be several reasons for that. ya might try adjusting the clutch pedal.

Tried that also unscrewed that little nipple thing to drain a bit of the hydrolic fluid thought there might of been air in it. Still nothing.

When I blew my 5speed 97 GS tranny, I COULD NOT GET IT INTO 1ST GEAR FOR MY LIFE. It did however go into 2nd but it would kick out of gear REAL FAST. Do you downshift a lot when racing, like at high RPM's? I did, now I am scared to downshift. =/

Haven't had the chance to race the car yet just got in liek 2 weeks ago. but i do down shift but rev rpm's before down shifting to where i know they are going to be when i downshift..i was looking at buying the ACT 2100 clutch kit for $325 from Road///Race Engineering..that any good? the only thing i noticed is that when i went to ACT's main site they did not have this kit there for a non turbo car.

ACT doesn't make a clutch for the Non-turbo 2g dsm's. and the reving before downshifting won't help your tranny mucn unless you do it right way (double clutching), it will however save your clutch a little bit. hehe.

I looked at all the vendors and it seems like no one makes a decent clutch for a non turbo for a decent price or am I just blind?...also do I have the modular or non-modular tranny...99 gs

centerforce makes good clutches (although there have been complaints from turbo'd 2gnt owners, probably cause the clutch is designed for a car that doesn't have a turbo) and then there is the Clutchmasters, which can handle mass amounts of HP.. but are kinda spendy. and the modular non-modular thing.. i forgot which years are which.. so I can't help ya there.. hehe.

Some 95's are Non modular
96 - 99 are Modular.

Clutchmasters is the BEST by far. I am running a CM Stage 3 and I love it and I have had NO problems AT ALL with it. Well worth the money if you plan on some high HP numbers in the future.

I downshift a lot when I race on tracks and mountains. I always heel and toe or double clutch. It's much gentler on the tranny and clutch. Don't give me a lecture on syncros and crap either if you rode with me you'd know what's gentler on the car.... suden jerking movements or nice smooth transition?

WTF is going on here...I pulled the clutch out from my car it's made By Sachs i beleive the emblem said on it...it's a 1 piece set riveted directly to the flywheel...so i go to NAPA and have one special ordered for 170$ I even bring them the clutch to see what it looks like and they ordered a 2 piece clutch without the flywheel and it doesnt even fit...I got to the dealer and paid the 600$ to have it overnighted and also showed them the clutch and asked them if its gonna be one piece and riveted..again they sent a 2 piece set that won't fit...WTF is going on where can I get a clutch exactly the same as it was in my car? 1 piece riveted to the flywheel?

1 piece clutch is a modular. The 2 piece is non modular. If satan got you the wrong clutch then something is truly messed up. Sounds like you need to find another shop!

You have a modular clutch. We all do, unless we added a flywheel and switched it. Sachs makes modular clutches, ClutchMasters makes modulars, CF makes them, lots of places.

If you can't get it in gear, it does not necessarily mean it is your clutch. People like to think that, but many times they are flat wrong.

if you can't get it in gear, chances are is the clutch hydralics that are failing, not the clutch. You said you drained some fluid out of the slave cylinder. Did you add any in? is there any fluid left in it? Are there any signs of leakage on your master or slave cylinders? If you pump the clutch repeatedly, does it go into gear?

Look at the asy stuff first. Not all transmission problems on an MTX are related to the clutch.
