#19442, "For those that have had a 420A torn apart....."

I recieved a call from a local shop tonight, who was rebuilding the engine in a 1997 Talon. They knew my father built engines, and had did mine for me. anyways, their question was pertaining to what they called "crank end run". from what they explained to me, once they started putting the block back together, and put on the oil pump, the crank would "snag"..or so they put it. now, i know crank "play" would be like the crank moving back and forth(out of spec) but they said it was out of spec LENGTH wise, like it was sticking out too far. my guess was the crank might be slightly bent. they took the pump back off, and reassembled it, with no problems this time but they are worried about it still. has anyone had an experience even REMOTELY like this while building a 420A back together? my dad is outta town and im baffled.

want to run? emoji

Buying a honda is wrong, trying to mod it is a sin, saying it's fast is a crime.

Look it up at http://2gnt.technologic.org

If not that .. try ther 420A rebuild manual on http://www.heavenz-not-0verflowing.com/files/ .. I know the oil pump blades are turned by offset notches in the crankshaft end. The only thing i can thing of that could cause excessive end-to-end movement of the crank is a bad oil pump, a bad rear main, or a bad crank. All the specs are in the 420A rebuild manual, so check there first.

Good luck, and let us know what you find!
