The EGR system recirculates hot, ditry exhaust gas back into your intake system. it works to help the car warm up on cold starts, and helps emissions to a degree.
The easiest way to block it off is to remove the pipe that runs fromt he valve assembly to the intake manifold. This way, the valve will still work and you won't get a CEL, but it will no longer recirculate exhaust.
It does not give much of anything as a gain, it is more of a safty feature. The EGR pipe has been known to burn up sections of the wiring harness that run close to it, as well as dirty up your intake.

Guess I am gonna go this route thanx!!! good thing they only do a sniff test @ e-check. should only leak exhaust when cold right!?

I think he meant that it only circulates exhaust when the car is cold.. which isn't true, it circulates exhaust most of the time.. if not all the time. I'm happy my car doesn't have a EGR system

>Leak exhaust? You block off the hole in the head (the only >place that the EGR can leak exhaust). > > > >Eric Madden So...If I put a block off plate there then I will or wont get a cel??? from what Dino said sounded like just remove the pipe and let the exhaust flow thur the EGR I may have miss under stood????????????
