For the 420A cylinder head:

Short bolts: 20 ft lbs (plus an additional 1/4 turn)
Long Bolts: 48 ft lbs (plus an additional 1/4 turn)

Isn't there also a specific pattern to do it in, and also don't you have to do it more than once?

i just did my head and those aren't the right torque specs but i have the new metal head gasket so the old one might be different. i'll have them on wednesday cause the info is in my car and that's at the shop.
you do have to do it 3 different times also. the first two times are different and the last time is the same and the 2nd time plus a 1/4 turn.

Sorry if they're the wrong specs but that's what it lists in the Chilton's Manual for the 420A head.

ok here are the specs straight from the dealer ship. this was in with the metal gasket that i bought from them and the guys there told me to use these specs when doing it

follow the pattern(1-6 then 7-10) that was given earlier in the posts but follow these torque specs.

1) Torque all center bolts to 25 ft. lbs., torque four corner bolts to 20 ft. lbs.

2) Torque all center bolts to 50 ft. lbs., torque four corner bolts to 35 ft. lbs.

3) Torque all center bolts to 50 ft. lbs., torque four corner bolts to 35 ft. lbs.

4) Tighten all bolts in the specified sequence an additional 90 degrees (1/4 turn; do this without the torque wrench)

Okay bedlam, after seeing those numbers it makes me wonder if there where 3 different gaskets used. I found this on a Neon site.

well....now that that was taken care of we now know why everyone was trying to decide on the right specs for the head. guess chrysler couldn't make up their mind on what type to use. geeez. good thing i got the new metal one cause i would have hated to have the rubber one. i finished my car(yeah right) and turns out that now i have to get a new crank cause it no longer has threads for the bolt. while it ran i noticed that my fuel injectors weren't really in their place very well cause it was whistling from them and i needed to bolt the exhaust manifold down more plus the downpipe and everything else. guess the car just doesnt' want to be driven
