#19026, "REV. Limiter"

I was wondering what everyone has done about their rev. limiter. I have a 96 GS and the damn thing redlines at 6500. That sucks but I was looking to see if anyone had some suggestions besides the jet chip.
Thanks,
Patrick

Currently there is no way to remove the limiter. JET is crap.

That sucks, I'm sorry to hear that. I know jet is crap but I was hoping for something that could modify it. They really should make something to help us out.

6500 rpm Rev Limiter. Your Lucky. With my 98 Eclipse Spyder GS 5-Speed the Rev Limiter is at 6000 rpm. SUCKS MAN.

Why they set the Rev-Limiter to 6000 rpms for the Spyder I have no Idea. I would love to eliminate it since if I get NOS and was cruising at 4000 rpms in 3rd or 4th gear and hit the NOS....won't the rpm rev it 6000 rpms in about 1 second and then I have to let go off the gas and shift which would shut off the NOS = SUCKS.

Any Ideas???

it's cause you got the 4g64 2.4L.. they probably aren't capable of reving as high, but i don't know that for a fact.

and the guy with teh 6500rpm limiter.. are you auto? cause i heard all the autos are that way.

all the 2gnt 5-speeds are supposed to be set at 7400rpm and they do not have a speed governer.

I thought rev limit was 7200 and that it was because the valve springs float over this rpm.

7200 is the stock rev limiter.
7000 is the recommended red line.
6500 is the stock Auto tranny redline.

At this point since no one has been able to crack our ECU the only way to increase your redline is with a full stand alone Engine Management system.

Changing the fuel cut through an ECU will be great for us 5 speed guys, preferably those with built valvetrains. But will not help you guys with auto transmissions. The 6500 rpm shift is controlled by the transmission computer, not the ECU.

7200 is about correct, I found out the hard way when I was in the middle of running with a GSR.

As far as rpm goes, with the power we are making and the gear ratios, 7500 would be the best stock redline. Thats where the power in first gear has interseted with second gear, so we stay in first longer, actually we stay in second a little longer too. Still need to shift at 6800 in 3-4 shift and 6600 in 4-5 shift since the gear ratios intersect a lot closer.

Sorry it took so long to write back. I have a 96 GS 5-speed with a HRC stageII. I also have a speed govener of 130mph, I checked one day on an open road. If 5-speeds are supposed to be 7rpm or better why do I stop at 6500rpm?

What does your Tachometer go to, 8000 or 9000? The 5 speed should have a 9000 rpm tach and go to 7200. If you buy indiglo gauges they come with a 8000 rpm tach and the 5 speed will then look like it is redlining at 6500 instead of 7200.

Fuel cut is 7200. That can be removed by a stand alone fuel system such as the DFI. It has already been done. Avenger ES-T revs his car to 7800rpm which is the spark cut. That can be removed by either reprogramming the stock ecu which is being worked on right now or by a complete full standalone.
