#19023, "2 bent valves and a warning"

My car has ran for 2 weeks total since last July (11th). I spun a rod bearing first. I was finally able to buy another motor (wanted to go the easy route), but it took a while to get in there. Got it in and running end of October. Ran for 1 week and then quit starting (no fuel). Finally got a new fuel pump and relay in January (very beginning of Jan) and got it running again. Ran for another week and then, as I was going down the highway in stop and go traffic, the motor died. When I tried to restart it, heard metal to metal contact. Towed it home. Timing belt was very loose at cam gears. Started tearing things apart here the last month or so and got a timing belt and new tensioner. Found that the tensioner bracket had broken. When we called Mitsubishi about a price on it, they said that this was pretty common. I've never heard of it. Pulled the bracket off of my old motor and started putting it all back together (thinking maybe I was okay and I would start it and see). One of the cams wouldn't turn all the way around. Pulled cam cover. 2 bent intake valves (at least). Those were obvious, because the rocker was losing contact with the cam. Valves stuck down. Now I have to pull the damn head and do something with these bent valves.

Be warned though. Check out that bracket when doing timing belt changes! It's not cheap, but damn... You don't want to be where I am. I was layed off 3 times last year, so that's why it took me so long to get money around. Still haven't recovered from all of the out-of-work time. IT sector is a bitch in the lousy economy.

(wondering what's it's like to drive a 2gnt since it's been so long).
