#18583, "just did a compression test...some ?'s"

hey, so i just did a compression test and the results are
#1 - 209
#2 - 210
#3 - 212
#4 - 210
now it says to crank the engine about 5-6 times or until the gauge stops going up, but i had to crank the engine about 10 times until the gauge stopped. is this normal. also, while i was cranking each cylinder, somewhere in the time i was cranking it, i would hear a pop. for each cylinder there was only one pop. what could that be...is it bad. lastly, when i got everything back together, i got a CEL. i reset the ECU and it went away, but is that normal, or did i mess something up. oh, one more thing, sorry, i had posted before about seeing bubbles on my dipsick when it was hot, but not when it was cold and was worried that the HG was leaking again. if it was i would assume my comp #'s wouldn't be so good, but could the water be getting in, but nothing getting out of the HG? tia, and sorry it was so long

Good numbers...I am not sure about the popping sound....And what code did the CEL give you when you did the key dance?

i couldn't remember the key dance, so i didn't get the codes. that's why i was wondering if you guys have ever had that happen. i didn't have time to look online, and figured if the CEL came on again after the reset, then i would go from there, but it didn't.

Did you disconnect the injectors and the coil?

If you didn't disconnect the coil you may have had a misfire code.

i followed corbin's directions on his site. it said there are either 2 or 4 relays on the driver's side firewall. i only have 2 and i disconnected both of them. should i have done something else also? could that have to do with the pop sound? and is it normal to have to crank it so many times?

You are just supposed to pull the relays. One is MFI and one is Fuel pump. That should kill fuel pressure, injector opening, and spark. Some people have 2 relays; I have 4. It has something to do with your transmission. I wouldn't worry about the "pop". I've heard that before. I think it is gauge related. If it screams everytime you crank, then get a new gauge (its a leak). Also, I wouldn't worry about letting it crank 10 times. How long you have to crank probably has to do with the gauge design. Letting it crank forever can overheat the starter (or so I've heard), so keep that in mind.

The cel you got is from unplugging the relays. I had the same thing when i did my comp. a year ago. Your car is ok.
