#18321, "Would this cause me to throw a belt? (Pics inside)"

I took my car to my local "performance shop" to have all the belts replaced. So I got it back and the next day I threw my ac/power steering belt. Hmm, I thought, that's never happened before. I took it back to them to get it put back on and they told me that I would continue to throw belts because my idler pulley is shot. They said that I would need to replace it, for $150. So I said, just put the belt back on for now. Well Saturday night I threw the belt again. I looked Sunday morning and noticed that the ac was loose, so loose that I could pivot it by hand. Plus I noticed a bolt missing: (see red circle)

The question is, would that bolt missing cause me to throw the belt? I hate to pay them anymore money to "fix" something on my car that may not need fixing. Thanks for your help guys.

b/fore you took it into the shop was that bolt there or do you not know - it sounds like they are doing stuff to you car so youhave to bring it back and pay them more money - i dont know why but our cars suck at throwing belts..the other day b.fore i bought my car i was going about 90 down the highway and had to stop really fast - bam threw BOTH belts at one time...that sucks but the dealer fixed it...like i said did you know youidler pulley was shot or not?? it souns like a case of recurring shit...they just want money from you...try to get a second opinion...

it looks to me like they didnt put shit back together properly after u took her in...
did u have all the bolts on when the belt went off the first time??

i think they are feedin u a bunch of crap, but dunno cuz its not my deal. u definately need that bolt to hold it to the mounting bracket.

on my writeup for the afx udp, tehre is a wealth of info on tightenin belts. see what u can do about them gettin u that bolt they forgot to put back in, and do pay em shit more. hit up my site, and tweak them belts so they are good and tight...

I also just threw my a/c-ps belt. I tightened it has hard as I could with a crowbar to stop the squeak from the UDP. No squeaks, but a nice *SNAP* about two days later. Guess I'll live with the occasional cold squeak when I turn the wheel to lock.
