I am somewhat knowledgable when it comes to engine work and i was lookin through the service manual that i got with my 98 gs and i see that the timing belt should be changed at 60,000 miles, i've actually gone over and am at 62,000. I was gonna call the dealership this weekend and set up a day i could take it in to get the belt and all the other crap (seals, etc.) changed while it was in there... i looked at the mods page and saw that i could do it myself by getting the parts from the dealer... i was just wondering how long it would take to do myself along with a buddy of mine who is pretty good with cars... just want an idea of how much cheaper it would be doing it myself vs. the dealership?? what does the dealership (in general in your area) charge for something like this??

My local dealer charges 289 for timing belt replacement (just labor and the belt, which is around 90 bucks).

Satan out here wanted 400 bucks to do the belt, and just the belt, no extras. I said F that i'm doin my self. Its really not too difficult, but def have someone who is good with tools/hands there to help if you go that route. Look at the bottom of my signature. You will find a write up on how to do all of this. I gave all the tools needed, and all the steps..Read through it, and if it sounds like something you can do, go for it..
