#18007, "Now this could really be a problem (RE: Oil Leak & Warranty)"

you guys might remember me posting about oil coming down from the valve cover like in this picture below well yesturday I poped the hood and looked around at that area and I all the sudden see the transmision covered in oil n shit, now I'm thinking this could be a bad oil leak, but my eclipse only 17,000 miles on it which really sucks, I never had problems before

I don't have my warranty booklet on me so I have a couple of questions, is the powertrain warranty up to 60,000miles or just the 3years/36,000miles? also could this be a head gasket problem of some sort?

first try and find where the oil is coming from, if it is the same spot as on that pic then it looks like you valve cover gasket is leaking. the head attaches a little farther down. if it is the valve cover then dont worry, the parts cost about 60 dollars from the dealership, cheaper else where, and the work is simple. if its not that then its out of my leauge to give advice about. find where its coming from then post back.

On the Eclipse the warranty is 5 years 60,000 miles. Take it in to Satan and make them fix it.

if you go to a 5 star dealership they should cover it. i just got all the gaskets in me engine done by satan about 3 weeks ago cuz a bunch of them were leaking bad. my car has 42,000 and is a '97 and they covered it. the 5 year warranty is for ENGINE and drivetrain, which is basically the major components of each. with 17,000, i wouldn't think even satan would give you too much trouble about it.

Ya I think some dealers might cover it, but I remember a bulletin posted at my local dealership, that mitubishi's warranty on gaskets (head or valve cover gasket etc) is only 3 years / 36k and technically not covered under the powertrain warranty. I guess they consider gaskets kind of like a wear and tear item.
