Recently Ive noticed that whenever my car is idling, the temp gauge climbs and sits at the normal level. However, when I start driving it drops down towards cold. And I mean it drops to like the same temp as when the car starts COLD. This only started after I removed my stock airbox and went to an open element filter on the end of my stock intake pipe. Is this normal, or has my thermostat gone bad or something?

My fiance's 97 GS did that. Sometimes at idle, it would go to the normal temp. where the gauge stays in the middle. Then, when you go, it would drop to like 1\4. We took it back to carmax where she bought it and the tech over there said it was normal. I dunno, mine never did that, it would just stay at the middle regardless of the condidtion. My guess is it would be the thermostat, it got stuck open or something. Good luck.

that is almost garrunteed to be a "stuck open" thermostat. open up and take out the termostat when the car is relatively cold.. if it's still open then you have a bad thermostat and just get a new one for like 15 bucks and put it in.. problem solved.
