#17807, "Losing OIL need HELP..."

I have an extremely large amount of oil comming out of the pcv valve (the one on the upper right of the head cover) and returning to the intake filter. I have a recently rebuilt engine, and a stage II HRC turbo. I am loosing something like 1 qt. of oil per 1000 miles. Please any help would be great

I thought loosing 'some' oil when boosted is normal??? I've read in a post a while back, instead of normally putting 4.5 qts of oil, put 3.5 instead. I think HRC, was the one I read this from. This was a post a wwhhhiiiiiille back!!! Good luck.

I've tried putting less oil in the engine, but it doesn't help. Since the oil is comming out the head, it doesn't matter if you have 4.5 or 2 qts of oil in the engine, as long as the oil pump is pumping the oil up into the head, it will continue to come out. Atleast this is how i understand it all works.

search the turbo section, it is blow by, it happens under boost to me aqlso, thats why we buy a catch can, to monitor how much oil its blowing out, if its quite a bit, you could have bad rings i believe...

Sound like your rings are not seated properly. Try doing a compression check.

Normally, how much oil should be coming out?? Is it a relation where the higher boost you are running, the more oil comes out?? Or is it just a sign than your internals are going bad (rings, etc...), regardless of boost??

Yeah.. i understand there is a chance that the prob. might be blow by, but i don't think anyone wants to tear apart their brand new block, expecially with an- o ring head gasket. $$ I was hoping that it might be either a comon prob. or something simple. I talked to a few mechanics and everyone agrees that you do NOT close off those PCV valves. Just a little heads up to anyone else with this problem.. there are 2 valves, make sure both go to your catch pan if that's the way you pervent it.

I also had the same question that was made 2 postings ago. Is this problem expected to worsten as i push more boost?

I also wanted to know how much other people are loosing (oil) out of their recently turbocharged rebuilt engine.

Thanks

1 qt of oil every 1000 miles seems like too much to me. I don't loose nearly as much. then again I'm not pushing 12 psi. did you break her in gently for atleast 500 miles before you boosted?

Woops, forgot to put that in there. I went 1500 miles w/out boost and less than 3500 rpm, then went another 1000 miles at less than 4500 rpm w/out boost. I babied that car like you would not believe. I also am only running 6 psi right now. I was going to let it ride at low pressure till i was SURE then engine was safe, and it isn't looking so good.
