#17722, "Stupid PS belt"

Ok so my bando PS belt lasted bout a week. Put a new belt on yesterday, have good tension on it. I went out last night and the new one was squeeking!!! Am I missing something here?? I have it pretty tight, so I dont think i need to tighten it, could I have it too tight? Or will a new belt just slip a little bit when you first start it? Thanks

LOL, after my first PS belt, I got about 5 more within a 3month period. I either had it too tight or not tight enough, it would fall off or snap. I sold that car so I hope the new owner doesnt have it fall off or snap on him...he'll be like wtf.

mine has always squeaked, could never get the tension just right...well, when i was home on spring break, i went to tighten it again, and the tension bolt broke in half, lol. about a week later, it mysteriously stopped squeaking, and hasnt since, emoji

The same thing happened to me. I only replaced it once though. Drove the car for about three months and pulled the motor. Both new belts already had cracks in them. wtf??

Somewhere on this board is the 420A overhaul manual. It shows the belt tensioner tool and lists the proper tension for the belts. I would check that out.

hey my power steering only squeeks when I turn far to the left or right all the way, especially when the car is not moving or the rpms are below 2000, other than that the afx pulley is great, top of each gear pulls fast, one question, by me getting this pulley and making more low end torque, did I in turn give up some high end, I don't know if that is how it works but it sure does feel like it on the freeway
