ok i just bought some used fuel injectors(50,000 miles) for a 420a engine and i was wonderin should i try to put them in myself or should i have a professional do it?how much is the average cost to have them installed professionally.i know some places wont do it cuz they wont install customer products...oh yeah and where can i get new o rings and grommets cuz in my chiltons it says that you need to replace the old rings and grommets?i have never put fuel injectors in before but i do know my way around an engine well, what should i do?thank you

well it's a little pain in the ass to take out of the little room but no professional help needed. 1st off make sure there's no pressure in the fuel rail, there's a bleed valve on the fuel rail, it looks just like the one on tires, press it and there goes the pressure, 2.then unscrew and take off high pressure fuel hose(it's at the right of the fuel rail),3. disconnect the wire terminals on the injectors. 4. it would be a good idea to remove the throttle body and unscrew acceleration cable, cause the acceleration cable is kinda in the way, so remove that too and put it aside.5. now here's the pain in the butt part...there's 2 bolts behind the manifold that's hard to reach, they are two 13mm bolts. try to feel them with your fingers to know where to reference the socket wrench. take your time on it. it'll take awhile. 6.and last thing is, if you notice in between the fuel rail and the ignition coil there's like a "L" shape bracket with 2 bolts, and i think they're also 13mm. remove that too. after all that just pull it right out. and when you put in the new ones make sure you put a little oil on the O-rings so it slides on easily. the same goes for the high pressure hose. put oil on o-ring too. that's pretty much it. trust me it's easy. just be patient.

I did not remove the throttle body. I did disconnect my throttle cable and removed the adjustment bracket(2 bolts). I also removed the stock coil on the valve cover. This allowed my hands to slip in the tight crack(Pun intended). A 13mm socket with extension will take off the "L"bracket fairly easy. Actually removing the fuel rail bolts is the tricky part and you WILL scrape some skin. I did not remove any fuel lines etc. Make sure you put the locking clips(injector/fuel rail)in the same way you took them out. You can swivel them to allow you to install them easier(you will see what I mean when you do it).

It took me 2 hours to get mine out(first time and I have big hands)and 45 minutes to install/start the car.

When I did mine, I started the car, unplugged my fuel pump fuse(I have mine rewired)and let the car quit on its own from fuel starvation. This ensured there no fuel in the rail/injectors. Worked for me.

Why are you putting in used fuel injectors?

Do it yourself, no reason to pay somebody for it. If you have the chiltons just follow the directions there, it's a very simple job.

And you can get a new o-ring set at any parts store or the dealership. And give the o-rings a light coating of oil before you slide them in.

thanks for the info, i just bought new o rings from napa and i also found a mechanic who said that he will put the injectors in for me for $60...that sounds like a good deal to me!

that is a very good price. go for it. On the 4g63 motors, injectors can be changed out in 30-45 minutes. They are easy to get to. Ours are a pain in the asss.
