You gain a little hp & a lot of noise, but it's bad for the environment. I wouldn't suggest doing it, but that's just me.

Its also illegal depending on what state you live in. You might want to try to search before you post also. If you look a few posts down there is another cat/straight pipe post. ACtually there is probably an average of two posts a week about taking the cat out. Just for future reference

It's illegal in all 50 states in the US. someone mentioned something about taking it out but keeping the cover part that covers the cat so it looks like it's still there. I'm taking mine out, but I think it will be more beneficial if you have turbo or are pushing a lot of horsepower.

I thought you could take it out in Florida??

You cant take it out in FL as far as i know...BUT...they dont do emissions tests anymore so there isnt really any way you would get caught.

I am not required to pass emmisions tests in southern indiana, so I am not required to have a cat, or even a muffler in this area, the police just dont like really annoying loud cars, but other than that, as long as your registered out in the country, you wont get a ticket.

Dont remove the cat - just get it gutted. You basically get the same benefits of not having it, but if a cop looked under your car for a visual inspection it would appear that you still have a cat. My cat went bad so instead of buying a new one i gutted mine. I noticed almost no gain in HP or torque, but my exhaust sound got deeper. And its illegal only where you have emissions tests on your inspection. I live in rockland county, NY and I need to pass emissions. The next county over doesnt - so they dont need cats.

I took off mine and replalced it with a straight pipe for a FWD turbomade by my friend David Brode from club DSM. yeah it gets alot louder but you will notice a little torque and HP but you will have better throttle responce. i like mine and have no problems. went to take my emissions last week and passed with no problems.

AEM CAI, Greddy EVOlution exhaust, B&M shifter, David Brode Custom straight pipe extruded intake manifold, slight port and polished head, fidanza cam gears, crower stage 3 cams, and not tuned yet ( cam gears are on 0)
