An alternative is to gut your cat. Get ready for exhuast stinkiness though, haha I've raced behind cars that have no cat and just straight pipe and it smells like rotten eggs.

Just punch the cat. If you have ass*ole cops like there are around here that will check under your car for a cat, its a nice way of avoiding a ticket. Plus you get no CEL. The only bad part is the fumes from the exhaust will make you naucious when the wind blows the wrong way on a nice day. emoji

I didnt really notice any power gains, but the exhaust sounded better.

you should only get the rotten egg smell if you have a cat that isn't working.. if you don't have a cat at all.. there shouldn't be any smell.. i've drove a vehicle for a while with no cat.. never a bad smell.

Well, I would not say you wont get a CEL..... I got a CEL and it went away, and then just came back after a trip to Orlando last week. I get code 72 every couple of weeks. It magically appears and then disappears. I cannot find what code 72 is either.

You can fix this CEL problem a few ways....
one is located here on a neon web site...
http://www2.cesa12.k12.wi.us/brent/personal/neon/pic/cat_resistor.html

There also is a device called an O2 simulator which costs ~$40 and mimicks an after cat O2 sensor to fool you ECU. I cant find the link right now, but search for O2 simulator.

Now, if you punch or gut your cat out, be prepared for some huffy exhaust sounds or a coffee can effect if you will. Ever since I gutted my cat, my exhaust note is horrible. I am embarrassed to rev my engine. I have a resonated test pipe coming in the mail, and I hope it fixes this sound problem.

Okay a few things to correct since I have been Cat-less on the 2g for about a year now. First, we run VERY rich stock and so when you gut the cat it's a VERY strong gas smell ans when you come to a stop it follows you up and does smell kinda bad.

I got code 72 when I first punched the cat, it lasted about 1 month and then has never come back. Even after resetting the ECU many many times it hasn't come back.

As far as the sound, I had 2 1/4 inch piping with the same muffler that you have with no cat and it is a little buzy. I got a $15 cherry bomb glass pack muffler and put it on where the old resonator was and I didn't notice a loss in power and it sounds MUCH better now.

Still stinks though.

Yeah my car stinks too. It smells a little like gas but you are probably smelling the chemicals that the cat was supposed to get rid of. Now its time for an AFC to correct the richness of the fuel system and hopefully get rid of some of the smell.

jive daddy if you are looking for a straight pipe i have a friend who makes them. go to club DSM.org and go to the vendors page. then look for David Brode. tell him you need a s-pipe for a FWD non turbo and tell him you will need hangers for them. the price is $58.00 shipped to your door. i have one and i noticed alittle more HP and TOrque but i noticed alot better throttle responce.

AEM CAI, Greddy EVOlution exhaust, B&M shifter, David Brode Custom straight pipe extruded intake manifold, slight port and polished head, fidanza cam gears, crower stage 3 cams, and not tuned yet ( cam gears are on 0)

Planning to add HRC stage 4, AFX UDP, Modern performance 60mm T-b
