I think I already know the answer but humor me (plus I think the pain killers for my back are making me stupid ... don't ask long story). I know the engines are the same except that the head is reversed. My question is can I take a neon head and slap it on a 2gnt with little to no modification? Let me know.

it _should_ bolt up fine, which is why we _should_ be able to use the stratus 2.4 w/ our head to avoid any rewiring or firewall clearance issues, just some custom engine mounts

i dont know of anyone whos actually tried it yet tho, so until then, its still just a "should" fit

I doubt it. There would be a good bit of fabrication required converning the exhaust and intake manifold, plus the fact that the Neon, i am almost certain, has the block itself reversed as well as the timing belt is on the oposite side.

In a word: No.

*edit*

The more i think about it.. it might work. Since the whole block is reversed, if you drop a Neon head on it, it may (if the block is reversed as well) put the intake and exhaust on the right sides, which might mean that everything would line up... By why? for 10hp?

*edit again*

No. wouldn't fit. The waterneck would be facing the wrong direction. It would bolt up, yeah, but it would never work.

dino, the block isnt reversed, and the timing belt is on the same side

**edit**

the head itself is the same, the difference is the intake and exhaust cams are reversed

Then it might work. I could have sworn the block was reversed too - oh well. I'm a 2g'er, and i never professed to know anything about the Neon itself emoji

Switch the cams around, bolt up the intake like it should be (in the back!) and the exhaust as it should be (in the front!), twiddle around with the cam angle sensor.. it might work.

But for what gain? We make more torque stock for stock..

i agree, i dont see the point in putting a neon head on our block, i was just using this as more evidence why we shoudnt have any more problems putting a 2.4 block in our car than a neon owner would emoji

Well my point for it was that you can find race prep'd heads for neons but not 2gNTs. If the only difference was the cams being in different spots then it's not a big deal. I can use the neon heads. I just wanted to make sure before finding out the hard way.

Would it bolt up? Yes
Would it work? not without modifications.

The problem is intake and exhaust ports are not the same shape. The intake ports have a "cutout" for the injectors to spray fuel in. The exhaust ports do not. So you would need to modify that for the intake to work. Then you would disrupt the airflow on the exhaust flow by having that "cutout" run into exhaust manifold gasket.

I think it could be done, but it would do no good and possibly be a detriment to performance.

Nope 95-99 had 420A powered DOHC motors available on sport and ACR models. maybe others...

umm...no...thats why its a SOHC: SINGLE Overhead Cam. 1 cam.

the neon was available in DOHC and SOHC models. the DOHC is the 420a, essentially the same motor in our cars, but the intake and exhuast cams are opposite (which as someone mentioned above, means intake and exhaust ports are opposite as well emoji )

Actually guys, i've been thinking about this question for a long time and finally someone hit it on the head.

Whoever above on this topic talked about the intake having to have a different shape than the exhaust.

If you have ever looked or tried to do port work on your intake or exhaust ports, you KNOW how they are SO much different. The intake port is somewhat oval and fairly straight.

The exhaust port though, on the other hand, is almost rectangular in shape and has a LARGE hump on the surface for a water passage.

Which this means either one of the following is true for the neon or 2.4L heads:

1) The neon heads (as well as the 2.4L heads) are NOT the same as our 2.0L head because they would have to have and exhaust port that looks like our intake port (and DIFFERENT water passages to handle the size of the intake port it needs) and different exhaust port size. They seem to be the same as our 2.0L heads as far as "looks" only.

or

2) The neon and 2.4L heads are the same, but they would SUCK because the intake ports would be HIGHLY restrictive (they would look exactly like our exhaust ports and their exhaust ports would be AWESOME because it would look like our intake ports.

think about it emoji

Anyone got a pic laying around of a 2.4 or neon head?
