#17251, "engine check light"

I got my car used about 9 months ago,
and from time to time the check engine light comes up.
then somehow it turns off when I turn the car on the next day or disconect the battery for 10 seconds.
this is rare, it does this like once a month or so.
whats up?
do i need to take it to the mech- or is it something I could do my self?
everything seems to be working good when the light is on.
???

do they key dance, it's explained in the home page, but is something like ON OFF ON OFF ON (or another OFF ON i don't remeber) it will blink fast and then a pause, and again blink fast, that is your error code, if should end up with a CODE 55 (No more codes) and you may get a code 12 (Reset ECU) if you disconnect your battery.

Next time the light comes on, check the codes. Click on the Info&Specs link above, and read the pcm codes. That will ell you both how to check the codes, and the list to compare them to.

Or if your lazy and you really wanna know whats wrong, just have it hooked up to a computer at a mechanic shop where they can tell you spec. whats wrong.

but its expensive.. They did the comp scan on my car, and charged me 70 bucks !

If you have access to a more detailed explanation, wouldn't you by any chance take the time to scan, "borrow", whatever you can do with the ones at work and pass them on to any admin???
