#15948, "Best settings for MSD DIS-2?"

What is the best settings for the MSD DIS-2 for the 14 mile? I dont need to retard timing yet but I will when I get NOS, but the rev controls. What should it be set at to get the best launch off the line. Any help would be appreciated.

One more question: Where is the ignition interrupt, and two step wires go? Do they hook up to the ECU? and if so what color wires...

the center wire (black w/ red stripe) is power
and the 2 outside ones are the trigger wires, the one closest to the firewall is for 1&4 and the other is for 2&3.

The light blue and brown wires off the DIS-2 get sent to a switch and then to ground. This is the ignition interupt and 2 step rev limit. I used the 2 step at 4500-5000 rpm for launching. Just follow the instructions in the MSD instructions and you will have no problems. On our coil, the power wire is the larger black with red stripe wire connected to the coil pack.

So does it matter what trigger I send each to as long as there going to the same wire?

About the ignition interrupt and two step. When the wires are grounded is what activates it? Can you explain to me what the ignition interrupt and two step do? and do I want them both on? or just at the track?

and what is the difference between "STAGING REV LIMIT" and "MAX SPEED REV LIMIT"? I guess max speed is just to protect your engine from over rev, but what does the STAGING REV LIMIT do?

I'm not retarding my timing now but I will be soon

Thanks for all your help.

>So does it matter what trigger I send each to as long as
>there going to the same wire?

There is an order, the msd instructions should say connect to trigger 1 which would be cylinder 1&4.
And tridder 2 would be to cylinder 2&3, which is the bown wire closest to the front of the car.

Max speed limit will be your rev limiter, so whatever you set it at the car will not rev past that rpm.

Staging rev limit, is what you'd use when your at the track or a light and you want to launch at a certian rpm, (once you know what rpm is best for your car and you to launch at) That wire you'll connect to a switch and when you supply power it will take over the revlimit of the car, (say 2500) so if your at a light ready to race, you (puch button switch works best here) push in and hold the button, so you can floor it and the rps will sit right at 2500, till you let off the button then they'll rev all the way.

This is so you can always get a constiant launch

So what is the best setting for the Staging rev limit on a stick? Should I set it at 2500 RPM?

And one more thing: All the settings on the first group of settings(little white switches) should they be set at the stock MSD setting?

isn't there a manual that comes with it to explain all this stuff? I'm not trying to be an ass.. but if it doesn't come with a manual that tells how to use it, that would suck, and be pretty stupid.

oh..and i'm guessing on the Staging rev limit.. that would be different for every car.. it's where YOU want to launch at.. and what is best for your car to launch at.

every car is different man, so you'll wnat ot test yours at different rpms and see what works better for you.

And on those switches, there should be somthing in the instructions, or you can call msd and ask them.

The new dis systems dont have those dip switches, its all computer controled, probably a lot easier.
