i just got off the phone with the tech at satan that is doing my HG repair(under warranty). I had mentioned to them that the exhaust has been smelling like sulfur, and he said that there is a ton of carbon in the engine. he said it was probably from using high octane gas, which i don't and haven't since i got the car 2 years ago. he wanted to clean the valves, but wanted to charge me like crazy to do that. do you guys know what i can do to clean it out a little(engine cleaners, etc.) or does it really matter that much. also, if i've only been using 87 gas and have been doing that for 2 years(only 41,000 on the car) what could cause this? do you turbo guys have this problem? i know they have to use 93 and up.

2GNT's run rich from the factory. This is common.. I've heard that MCCC (Mopar Combustion Chamber Cleaner) works well in these situations.. They should have it in the Parts Dept.

I think that guy is talking out his ass and trying to get you to pay him for more work that doesn't need to be done. Ya might have carbon build up with that smell.. but it wouldn't be from high octane gas.. shit high octane gas helps reduce carbon build up if I remember right. But I suppose I could be wrong.

you can do the ATF trick. take out the plugs and pour about 1/4 cup of ATF in each camber ,roll it over without the plugs in and put some more ATF back in. let it sit for about 24 hr put your old plugs back in and start the car let it idle untill the white smoke stops pouring out the tail pipe. pull the plugs again and clean them(with brake cleaner) and put them back in, run the car hard (redline a few times) for about 10 min. then go get some new plugs and put them back in and you should be fine.and yes it really works we here in MI have done it in a few diffrent cars now.it also gets a little messy

thanks guys...yeah i didn't think that high octane gas did that, and if there was soo much carbon in there then wouldn't my plugs and o2 sensors be messed up? i have noticed some carbon in the end of the muffler, anyway, i'm going to pick it up now, i would do that ATF thing, it doesn't sound too safe pouring ATF down the cylinders, has anyone else tried this?

ATF will do no harm to the motor it will help clen the motor alot. I have done this alot to help keep the carbon buildup down and it helps alot

Is this for low milage cars as well as high mileage cars? high meaning 70k or more

I hate to break it to you, but you should really have it done by Satan. It will end up costing you about $200, but it is well worth it. If you don't flush it out now, It'll begin to build up and really f up your engine. Also, depending on how much carbon really did build up you'll feel a large preformance gain from your engine (it did w/ mine...however my car 75k miles on it). To answer your question on how it happens,(Satan is wrong), it comes from using low octane gas and not having the car serviced. Therefore the person prior to you getting the car, really didn't take care of it. In my cases it was some 16 year old girl.

Is this true... I was reading in the nitrous forums a while back and one person stated that nitrous clears all the carbon out. Is that true?

if the MCCC is made to clean the carbon out, then why should i take it to satan to get done? is it that much better to physically clean the valves? BTW i feel pretty stupid about the ATF thing, hehe.
