How hard is it to install and remove AEM Cam Gears. I know that they aren't smog legal in California, so i was wondering how much of a pain it would be to install and remove them everytime smog came around. Or can you pass smog with them?

btw: should i get 2.5" piping, or should i just stick with the stock 2.25" piping? I have a CAI and an exhaust i'm putting on in the next two weeks, should i get 2.5" piping when i do it?

nevermind the piping question. I remembered i bought the obx muffler with the 2.25" inlet pipe, so no need to get 2.5" piping.

Well installing them and uninstalling them would almost be like doing a 60K service once a year (sorry a little bitter right now, I am having a problem removing the crank pulley). Anyway, since the cam gears are adjustable you can just set the adjustment to 0 and they would be like running stock cam gears.

Cam gears are a pain in the ass. You basically have to take off the whole side of the motor. It's a pain in the butt. Took me 2 days (I changed the timing belt while I was at it). Really is a pain. I still in the process of tuning it with the afc at the same time. Damn, I need some dyno time.

so basically i could tune them to pass emissions and then tune them back after i pass? And it wouldn't be that big of a deal? Awesome...maybe i will get them after all

Yeah it's pretty easy to adjust them and adjust them back. Just a few wrenches. No problems. Probably would take like 10 mintues.
